Taylor Wessing salary 2026: London NQ cash versus US class-year money.
The 2026 query names one firm. The paycheck sits in two vehicles, two currencies, and one unpublished US ladder. A general counsel who matches the cell has to know which of those three they are actually hiring.
Taylor Wessing nq salary versus US class-year money
The 2026 contrast is local currency against dollars, and a published London cell against an unpublished US ladder. Pick the lens that matches the seat you are actually filling.
Taylor Wessing nq salary in 2026 is the London newly qualified cell, not a US class-year ladder. Winston Taylor, live from 1 June 2026, set that cell at £125,000 ($166,000) in July. Remaining Taylor Wessing did not join and still pays in euros. Sartori maps roughly 30,000 lawyers in London, and the companies that hire from this desk — general counsel, chief legal officers, heads of legal — price the first in-house seat off the published London cell, not off Milbank’s $235,000 first-year base.
Law360 UK dated the Winston Taylor London NQ reset to 27 July 2026 and converted the cell at $166,000 in the same lede. That is the paycheck a UK general counsel can actually match. Published. Dated. Local.
Four paychecks answer the same branded query. Only one of them is the 2026 London NQ cell a company can put in an offer letter. The US ladder this page uses as a comparator is the market scale, documented on our 2026 BigLaw associate salary scale, not a Winston Taylor disclosure.
Two readers share this URL. The newly qualified solicitor, associate or partner who earns the cell needs to know which vehicle writes the paycheck after 1 June 2026, and which rungs above NQ are simply not public. The general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal who matches it needs the same split, because a London product-counsel offer letter copied from a US class-year rumor will not survive contact with the candidate’s last published cash. The rest of the page is that split, sourced, with the blanks labeled as blanks.

London NQ cash is a published cell. US class-year money at this firm is not.
What this firm actually prints, and what it will not.
Associate cash on this page is limited to cells a primary publisher dated. A mid-PQE London band that is not public is omitted, not guessed.
Winston Taylor set London newly qualified cash at £125,000 in July 2026. Law360 UK printed that cell on 27 July 2026 and converted it, in the same sentence, at $166,000. Exchange Rates UK printed 1 GBP = 1.3290 USD on that date; the unrounded arithmetic is $166,125, which is the neighbor of Law360’s round. A general counsel matching a London product-counsel hire uses the published cell. A chief legal officer matching a US associate does not have a parallel disclosure from this firm.
The London cell is a two-step story. Legal Cheek reported on 29 July 2024 that Taylor Wessing raised newly qualified solicitor pay from £100,000 to £115,000 and lifted its SQE grant from £12,500 to £17,000. The 29 September 2025 Legal Cheek NQ table still listed Taylor Wessing at £115,000. On the morning the combination went live, 1 June 2026, Legal Cheek recorded the legacy split still in force: Taylor Wessing first-year trainee £52,000, second-year £57,000, NQ £115,000; Winston & Strawn London first-year trainee £56,000, second-year £61,000, NQ £160,000. Combined rates had not been announced that morning.
The standing 2026/27 Legal Cheek Winston Taylor card also prints a PGDL grant of £12,500 and “No targets” against annual hours. Trainee cash on that card is in the table. The hours cell is a published blank, not a formula a general counsel can gate a bonus on.

The July 2026 step moved this platform through the list-wide average and left it £25,000 short of Magic Circle and £35,000 short of the legacy Winston London cell. Those two gaps are the hangover a head of legal hears when a candidate says the combined firm “pays US.”
The dollar line below uses Law360’s $166,000 and arithmetic from Exchange Rates UK’s 1.3290 print on 27 July 2026. NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey, as of 1 January 2025, still had an overall median first-year base of $200,000, a $215,000 median at firms of 701-plus lawyers, and $225,000 as the most frequently reported first-year salary (32.0 percent of offices overall; 44.7 percent of 701-plus offices; 56.5 percent of New York City offices). That 2025 distribution is the year before the Milbank step. It is not Winston Taylor’s US disclosure.

Legal Cheek 29 July 2024 cell; Exchange Rates UK 27 July 2026 ↗London has no bonus grid. Germany still prints one.
The branded query survives in Germany as a different employer, with a published euro ladder and a published bonus cap. London junior bonus is not a public formula.
One brand in the search barThree payrolls in the offer letter
- Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany, France, CEE and Asia kept the name. Associate cash in Germany is a published euro scale with a bonus cap. A Munich hire is this payroll, not London’s.
- Winston Taylor London UK, Ireland, Middle East and the Benelux brand from 1 June 2026. NQ cash is public. Mid-PQE cash and the bonus formula are not.
- Winston Taylor US US law offices in a different vehicle from Taylor Wessing (US) Inc. Class-year dollars for 2026 are not on a disclosure page.
Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany published a new associate scale on 29 October 2024, retroactive to 1 October 2024. Berufseinsteiger years 1 and 2 sit at €120,000; year 3 at €130,000; Senior Associate year 4 at €140,000; year 5 at €145,000. The firm raised the bonus cap to €75,000. Associates at that cap can reach about €195,000 total, which is the firm’s own stack of the €120,000 base plus the cap, not a third published cell. Career cards that still print an €85,000 Leistungsbonus against the same bases conflict with the release; this page uses the firm’s €75,000 cap.
That German ladder is the only associate scale above NQ this page will print, because it is the only one the employer dated. A chief legal officer hiring a Berlin TMT or data counsel is matching euros. A London general counsel is not. Treating the two as one “Taylor Wessing associate salary” is how requisitions get written against the wrong payroll.
Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany, years 1–2, from 1 October 2024
German 2025 results, released 29 April 2026, show why that euro scale is not a hiring wave. Practitioner FTEs fell from 460 to 423 while turnover rose to €243 million, up 13.1 percent in calendar 2025, and revenue per practitioner (UBT) printed about €574,500, up 23 percent. Remaining Taylor Wessing is running a profitability programme, not a headcount rebuild. Salary-partner promotions on 1 January 2026 still happened — twelve of them, with desks in employment, corporate, restructuring, real estate including digital-infrastructure work, TMT and public law — which is advancement inside a smaller practitioner base, not a volume signal for London NQ cash.
London junior bonus is the other blank. RollOnFriday, on 10 July 2026, paraphrased unnamed insiders: some lawyers who had received a small discretionary bonus received none in the post-combination round; some senior uplifts were described as less than 3 percent. A firm spokesperson said a review of global compensation structures was under way, with another review when financial years align in January. That is color on a process, not a published grid. It is not tabled, and it is not a band a general counsel can underwrite.
UK PEP is a 2025 number. It is not the 2026 combined firm.
The partner cells on this page predate 1 June 2026. A general counsel who uses PEP to price an in-house seat is reading the wrong document.
UK profit per equity partner was £1.1 million for the year to 30 April 2025. Taylor Wessing’s own results release dated 15 July 2025 put UK business revenue at £283.7 million, up 15 percent, UK profit at £103 million, up 12.3 percent, and global revenue at €619 million / £526.2 million, up 10.1 percent. Global Legal Post the same day recorded the UK PEP step from £908,000 in FY2023/24. The UK business had grown 80 percent since 2020. The Lawyer’s company card, accessed 11 September 2026, ranked the firm 20 in the UK 200, with 367 partners against that £526.2 million global print.
The highest-paid UK member is a different cell, and it is not PEP. Legal Cheek, on 4 February 2026, reported £10,387,583 for the year ending 30 April 2025 from the UK LLP accounts, up from £7.75 million the year before, and noted that the average PEP was about ten times smaller. Companies House confirms the vehicle: WINSTON TAYLOR UK LLP (OC322935), renamed from Taylor Wessing Limited Liability Partnership on 14 April 2026, last accounts made up to 30 April 2025 and filed 30 January 2026. A head of legal comparing an in-house package to “what partners make” needs that spread in view. Average PEP is not the top member, and neither figure is the NQ cell.
Do not collapse the UK-business revenue print with the LLP turnover reprints. Legal Business, on 14 April 2026, cited Taylor Wessing UK LLP revenue of £281.5 million. The firm’s 15 July 2025 release used £283.7 million for the UK business. They are related and they are not the same cell. This page keeps both and does not average them.

Legacy Winston & Strawn’s last standalone year is the US contrast, not a 2026 Winston Taylor PEP. Legal Business, on 14 April 2026, put 2025 revenue at $1.37 billion, up 8 percent; PEP at $4.05 million, up 15 percent, the first time through $4 million, from $3.5 million; net income at $436.5 million, up 6.4 percent; average partner compensation at about $2.04 million; and revenue per lawyer at $1.48 million. The combined platform’s homepage, accessed 11 September 2026, prints 1,400-plus lawyers and $1.75 billion revenue. January 2026 press ledes on the vote used $1.63 billion, $1.65 billion and $1.75 billion depending on the title. This page uses the firm’s own $1.75 billion homepage print for the combined platform and does not average the vote-day estimates.
A general counsel does not match PEP. The in-house seat that hires off this desk — product counsel, senior legal counsel, sometimes a first head of legal at a clinical-stage issuer — is priced off the NQ cell and the unpublished rungs above it. London partner economics belong on the London partner-pay read, where this firm is a PEP-spread datapoint rather than a 2026 scale. What belongs here is the reminder that £1.1 million and $4.05 million are 2025 partnership prints from before the letterhead changed.
A general counsel matches a paycheck, not a profit-per-equity average.
The NQ cell is earned at the firm. It is matched in-house.
The lawyer who earns £125,000 sits inside a recognized-body partnership. The company that copies the cell onto a product-counsel offer sits at the client.
The London NQ paycheck is written by Winston Taylor UK LLP, SRA 463016, a recognized body authorized since 1 November 2011 for reserved legal activities including litigation and probate.
Public titles on the combined firm’s own careers pages are trainee solicitor, associate, experienced lawyer, business professional and US summer associate. Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany sequences Associate (years 1–3), Senior Associate (years 4–6), Salary Partner from about year 6 on Expert or Unternehmer tracks, then equity partner, with a parallel knowledge-lawyer / professional-support track. Those German titles earn the euro scale in the previous section. They do not earn the London NQ cell.
England-and-Wales qualification is the SQE route. The SRA still requires a degree or equivalent, SQE1 and SQE2, two years’ qualifying work experience, and suitability checks. A 23 July 2024 firm insight said the UK business was only taking individuals through the SQE route, with the SQE completed a year ahead of the two-year training contract. The University of Law announced an exclusive SQE/PGDL partnership on 23 August 2021. Legal Cheek’s gates on the 2026 card are minimum A-level AAB and a 2:1 degree. Training-contract seats sit in London and Cambridge; Cambridge is the life-sciences, patents and legal-tech seat.
The patent and life-sciences benches add a scientific overlay. Winston Taylor’s intellectual-property page states more than 45 US patent lawyers hold scientific or technical degrees, and the trademarks operation prints more than 82,500 live marks. A newly qualified solicitor on those desks is not interchangeable with a general commercial NQ, which is why a general counsel hiring a radioligand or platform-patent seat cannot treat the £125,000 cell as a commodity rate.
The paycheck does not travel automatically across the platform’s vehicles. Winston Taylor LLP is a Delaware LLP. Winston Taylor International LLP is the UK principal place of business. Winston Taylor Ireland LLP is authorized by the Legal Services Regulatory Authority. Winston Taylor N.V. uses the brand in the Netherlands and Belgium under a license and is not a partner of the US or UK LLPs. Remaining Taylor Wessing is a separate verein employer. One NQ cell is one payroll.
The buyer who copies this cell onto a company payroll is a general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal at the issuer, not a hiring partner.
Winston Taylor’s life-sciences page names the company types: pharmaceutical, biotechnology, therapeutics and medical-device manufacturers, plus healthcare providers, payers and healthcare-focused investors. Legal 500 UK London life sciences, accessed 11 September 2026, lists a listed US medical-device manufacturer, a US/EU generics group, UK/EU specialty pharma, UK clinical-stage biotechs and a Japanese drug-discovery counterparty. Chambers UK 2026 ranks the life-sciences IP/patent-litigation desk UK-wide and has done so for 16 years. The TMT page prints Tier 1 for venture capital in both The Legal 500 UK 2026 and Chambers UK 2026, and Chambers UK 2026 Band 1 for Media & Entertainment: Publishing.
Dated 2026 issuer-side mandates show the in-house teams on the other side of the invoice. On 3 February 2026 remaining Taylor Wessing announced a US$35 million expanded seed for an Oxford clinical-stage cancer-vaccine biotech. On 22 January 2026 it announced a US$12 million Series C extension taking a UK life-sciences tools company to US$87 million total, with a UK public development bank among existing investors. Both releases named Partner and Senior Associate, Corporate. The general counsel or CFO of those issuers is the in-house buyer of the advice and a later employer of the associates.
The in-house title path is public in outline. A 1 June 2026 alumni piece describes a London qualifier moving to Product Counsel at a UK payments fintech that had been a firm client, then to Senior Legal Counsel (Product) at a UK digital bank. Legal Cheek independently puts client-secondment probability at 10 percent on its 2026-27 survey of 2,000-plus juniors, with fashion retail, major tech, pharmaceutical and property companies as host types. That 10 percent is a survey mean, not a firm quota, and it is the only quantified secondment figure this page will use.
Private-capital buyers sit on the same map: funds, portfolio companies and management teams, with overlap into technology and life sciences. ICLG’s firm profile, page-dated 10 September 2026, adds UHNW individuals, family offices, entrepreneurs, and VC, PE and hedge-fund principals on the private-wealth side. A chief legal officer at a PE-backed portco who is hiring the first in-house counsel is matching the NQ cell against a financing that the firm’s corporate desk just closed. That is the company-side use of this page. The lockstep-to-US-firm candidate question belongs on a different brief.
The NQ step is a combination event, not a lockstep cycle.
Partners voted in January. The letterhead changed in June. London NQ cash moved in July. A second look is dated to January when the financial years align.
VoteSecond look
- Partner approval Both partnerships voted on 30 January 2026. Remaining verein members in Germany, France, CEE and Asia did not join and kept the Taylor Wessing name.
- Live letterhead Winston Taylor went live on 1 June 2026, after the UK LLP name change on 14 April. London NQ cash was still unannounced that morning.
- NQ reset, then January London NQ cash moved in July. The dated window for a further compensation look is financial-year alignment in January, not a second NQ table this autumn.
Reuters, on 30 January 2026, reported that partners at Winston & Strawn and Taylor Wessing formally approved the merger, with more than 1,400 lawyers in 20 offices and combined annual revenue of $1.75 billion. The UK business (UK, Ireland, Dubai and San Francisco lawyers, in that report) would merge; Netherlands and Belgium would operate under the Winston Taylor brand and integrate over time; a referral relationship would remain with the rest of the verein. The firm announcement of 1 June 2026 is the live date, not the May go-live that several January titles still carried.
London NQ cash is being set against a 2026 peer set of newly combined US–UK platforms. Global Legal Post, on 29 June 2026, recorded Ashurst Perkins Coie completing a $2.8 billion combination (3,500 client-facing practitioners) and placed Winston Taylor, live at the start of that month, in the same wave as HSF Kramer (June 2025) and Hogan Lovells Cadwalader (1 July 2026). That is context for why the NQ cell moved. It is not a reason to import another firm’s scale onto this page.
The desks that actually feed these juniors are patents and life sciences, then TMT. The Unified Patent Court has been live since 1 June 2023. EPLIT’s ranking as of 1 June 2025, reported by Global Legal Post on 5 June 2025, put Taylor Wessing at 47 patents, second of 25 firms, against a UPC caseload of 883 cases to end-May 2025, including 320 infringement claims of which 244 sat in the four German local divisions. The England and Wales High Court judgment in BioNTech SE & Anor v CureVac SE & Anor [2024] EWHC 2538 (Pat), 8 October 2024, is the London life-sciences patent print attached to the same bench. Those caseloads price scientific-degree associates. They do not, by themselves, move the NQ sticker.
TMT demand is a 2026 statute clock, not a vacancy count. The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) applies generally from 2 August 2026, with AI Office and Member State enforcement from that date; the AI Omnibus (Regulation (EU) 2026/1744) entered into force on 27 July 2026. German NIS2 implementation has been in force since 6 December 2025, with remaining Taylor Wessing putting about 29,000 German companies in scope. Those clocks sit on the German euro payroll and on London commercial-tech knowledge seats. They are why a chief legal officer at a US company entering the EU still needs EU counsel from the representative-office channel in New York and San Francisco — which, on Taylor Wessing’s own USA page, do not provide US-law advice.
Match the cell you can see. Underwrite the rungs you cannot.
Sartori has worked the London associate market for more than ten years. The closed-file record is 33 searches. The gap that kills a company-side hire is the unpublished mid-PQE band, not the NQ sticker.
Inside the same London interview cohort, 142 respondents who sat as general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal at a company over a 24-month window described how they price a first in-house hire off this firm’s London patents, life-sciences or TMT desks. Of that 142, 83 named the published London NQ cell as the cash floor they match. Forty-one said they still cannot price the next seniority because no PQE ladder is public. Eighteen said they try to import US first-year cash and then fail to hire in London.
A chief legal officer at a UK clinical-stage biotech told us they budget the first in-house counsel seat at a premium to the published NQ cell, because the next rung is not public and they will not guess it. A head of legal at a UK digital bank said they price Senior Legal Counsel (Product) off the NQ cell plus years, never off PEP, and they walked away from one process when the candidate’s last cash sat on a US-London scale they had not budgeted.
Sartori’s London associate mandate telemetry records 33 closed searches over the trailing three years at a 93 percent completion rate, with a median offer-to-acceptance of 12 working days and a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks. Of those 33, 14 were company-side seats at life-sciences, TMT, fintech or PE-backed issuers. Of those 14, 9 closed inside the 6-to-12-week band. Five ran long because the company budgeted US class-year money against a London NQ CV, or the reverse. Counter-offer incidence on the London associate line is 35 percent.
Over the same three years the London associate desk opened 41 processes; 8 stalled before offer. Four died because the company would not underwrite an unpublished mid-PQE band against a published NQ cell. Four died because the candidate’s last cash sat on a US-London scale the company had not budgeted. Our own London file does not contain this firm’s 1-to-8 PQE cash, and that is the gap that stops the search. Inside the same interview cohort, 96 London NQs and 1-to-3 PQE associates over the same 24-month window were asked what they expected the combined firm to do with NQ cash; 68 of those 96 expected a step to Magic Circle £150,000 or to the legacy Winston London cell of £160,000. The published step was £125,000.
What the company can seeWhat the company must underwrite
- The published NQ floor A dated London cell a general counsel can put in an offer letter without guessing. This is the only junior cash the company and the candidate both have in writing.
- The unpublished mid-PQE gap Years 1 to 8 in London are not a public ladder. The search dies here when the company refuses to price a band the firm will not print.
- The US class-year product A different seat, a different vehicle, and for 2026 a ladder this firm has not published. Budgeting it for a London hire is a category error.
Two recent composites, described by category only. A UK digital bank hired a Senior Legal Counsel (Product) off a financial-services regulatory associate desk. The company matched a premium to the published London NQ cell, not PEP and not US first-year cash. The file closed in 9 weeks, inside the 6-to-12-week band; the law-firm desk counter-offered, which is the 35 percent line rather than a special case, and the candidate took the company seat. Scope was product launches, terms and regulatory risk with the product squads — an in-house job, not a seconded firm seat.
A PE-backed specialty-pharma platform hired its first in-house counsel after a financing. The candidate came off a Cambridge life-sciences and patents associate desk. The company had first budgeted US market-scale first-year cash on the theory that “this is a transatlantic firm now.” We re-cut the requisition to the London NQ cell plus a disclosed premium for the scientific overlay. The file closed in 11 weeks. The delay was the recut, not the shortlist. That is the company-side cost of treating the branded query as one number.
The service view of filling the company seat is our in-house counsel recruiting work; the firm-side associate brief, when the client is the partnership, sits on associate recruiting. Directional in-house bands by seniority, once the NQ cell has been matched and the lawyer is on the company payroll, are on the in-house counsel salary guide and, at the top of the function, the general counsel salary page. The private-practice versus in-house comparison, when the question is the gap rather than this firm’s cells, is the 2026 salary comparison.
Taylor Wessing salary 2026: questions from both sides of the offer
What is Taylor Wessing nq salary in 2026?
Winston Taylor set London newly qualified cash at £125,000 ($166,000) in July 2026. Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany still publishes a €120,000 Berufseinsteiger base from 1 October 2024. The two figures are different employers after the 1 June 2026 split. Taylor Wessing (US) Inc. does not publish a class-year dollar scale, and Winston Taylor is absent from Above the Law’s 2026 US match table.
Does Taylor Wessing publish associate pay above NQ?
No public 1-to-8 PQE London ladder exists for Winston Taylor or legacy Taylor Wessing. What is public is NQ £125,000 and trainee cash of £56,000 then £61,000 on the Legal Cheek Winston Taylor card. Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany does publish years 1 through 5 in euros, from €120,000 to €145,000, from 1 October 2024.
What is Taylor Wessing partner pay in 2026?
UK profit per equity partner was £1.1 million for the year to 30 April 2025. The highest-paid UK member received £10,387,583 in that year, per Legal Cheek’s read of the Companies House filing. Legacy Winston & Strawn’s 2025 PEP was $4.05 million. There is no published combined-firm PEP after 1 June 2026.
What bonus does a Taylor Wessing associate receive?
There is no published UK bonus grid against which a formula could be gated. Remaining Taylor Wessing Germany raised its bonus cap to €75,000 from 1 October 2024, so a Berufseinsteiger at the cap can reach about €195,000 total. Legal Cheek lists no annual hours target on the Winston Taylor card.
Should a general counsel match London NQ cash or US first-year cash?
Match the paycheck the seat actually pays. London NQ is £125,000 ($166,000); the 2026 US market-scale first-year base is $235,000 and is not a published Winston Taylor cell. A company that budgets the US figure for a London product-counsel hire prices a different product.
How long does a London associate-level hire take?

NQ and trainee cash come from Legal Cheek and Law360 UK. Partner cells come from the firm's own results and from Companies House via Legal Cheek. US class-year money is the market scale, labeled as a comparator. German associate bases come from the remaining firm's 29 October 2024 release.
The query this page answers drew 220 monthly searches on Google Ads Keyword Planner in a four-country pull dated 11 September 2026. US-only volume on the same string is lower. A figure that is not in the dated sources below, and is not a London associate-line Sartori figure, is omitted. That is why there is no London PQE ladder, no UK bonus percentage, and no Winston Taylor US class-year base on this page.
