Apply in confidence →

An opportunity has arisen for an associate to join a broad insurance and commercial disputes practice in Melbourne. The role spans contentious insurance matters — including casualty, professional indemnity, and directors' and officers' coverage and defence work — alongside general commercial litigation. There is a particular focus on high-value, strategic claims, matters involving significant stakeholder involvement, and claims arising from emerging risks such as AI.

You will work on complex, large-scale matters including defence of directors' and officers' liability and professional indemnity claims, claims involving large construction projects, product and public liability claims, and multi-party litigation. The client base is wide, encompassing major Australian and London Market underwriters as well as large corporations.

Working closely with colleagues across global offices, you will liaise directly with regional and international clients, help manage and delegate to junior lawyers, oversee e-discovery and electronic data collection, and be supported to take an active role in business development. The team is supportive, collaborative, and inclusive, and values knowledge-sharing and accountability.

  • Australian or dual qualification, with experience gained at an international or leading national firm
  • Prior experience litigating and defending claims in Australian courts and tribunals
  • Background in general disputes or insurance litigation
  • Strong e-discovery and electronic data management skills
  • Clear, effective communication and negotiation ability
  • Commercial awareness and confidence building client relationships
  • Collaborative team player with a commitment to technical excellence
