Client Engagement Counsel — Compliance & Regulatory, Amsterdam

Senior in-house counsel role within a legal, risk & compliance team of a major international law firm’s Amsterdam office. You will lead and operationalise the client engagement framework, owning engagement letters, general terms, master agreements and related policies while providing hands‑on support in complex negotiations.

The role combines strategic policy work (standard clauses, training, process design) with day‑to‑day advisory and negotiation on engagement terms, Outside Counsel Guidelines, billing rules and supplier codes. You will work closely with partners, directors and risk colleagues and collaborate with regional offices in Brussels, London and Luxembourg. Work is performed in Dutch and English.

There is a strong focus on regulatory alignment (professional rules, Wwft, privacy) and on improving tooling and workflows for client intake and contract management to make the organisation faster, more consistent and more compliant.

• University law degree (wo) with ~5 years' relevant post‑qualification experience.
• Proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating engagement letters, general terms and commercial contracts.
• Strong stakeholder management skills; comfortable advising senior lawyers and business leaders.
• Practical knowledge of Dutch professional rules and familiarity with Wwft and GDPR/privacy requirements.
• Analytical, pragmatic communicator in Dutch and English; able to translate recurring issues into policy, training and standard clauses.
• Experience with process improvement and willingness to contribute to tooling/contract management initiatives.
