A leading international law firm is seeking a Risk & Compliance Counsel to join its team of staff attorneys supporting the firm's risk management function. This role focuses on managing potential risks arising from the onboarding of new clients, new matters for existing clients, and lateral hiring.

The successful candidate will analyze and resolve potential ethical, contractual, and business conflicts of interest associated with new business intake and lateral hiring. Responsibilities also include researching and analyzing issues under applicable professional conduct rules, advising on compliance and risk management matters, and helping ensure engagement terms meet ethical and firm policy requirements.

Reporting to the Director of New Business & Conflicts, the counsel will coordinate regularly with senior legal and risk leadership, assess and address potential ethics and business conflicts, and counsel attorneys on conflicts and ethical issues. The role involves drafting waivers, establishing ethical walls, contributing to training and continuing education for legal and non-legal staff, and participating in special project teams.

Undergraduate degree and admission to practice in England & Wales
3+ years of related experience in a law firm or corporate office of general counsel, with knowledge of conflict of interest and new client intake policies and procedures
Strong legal research, analytical, decision-making, and project management skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills, with the ability to collaborate at all levels of an organization
Proficiency with MS Excel and Word; experience with conflict, intake, terms, and ethical-wall software is preferred
