An opportunity has arisen for an experienced workplace health and safety lawyer to join a market-leading national Workplace Relations & Safety team at Senior Associate to Special Counsel level, based in Sydney. The role involves working closely with a highly regarded partner and directly with clients to manage WHS matters from instruction through to completion.

The team is widely recognised for its expertise in employment, workplace and industrial relations, and safety law. It maintains a supportive, flat structure with an open-door policy, encouraging lawyers to deal directly with clients and participate in business development to build their own personal brand.

You will advise a broad range of clients, including construction, infrastructure and government organisations, as well as major shopping centre and property owners. An immediate priority will be involvement in WHS prosecutions in the mining sector. While the position can be wholly safety focused, there is also opportunity to include broader employment matters within your practice if desired.

Deep expertise in work health and safety law
Extensive experience in contested litigation matters, gained from a regulatory, private practice or government environment
Highly capable of building trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders
Ability to provide highly specialised and technical advice
Exceptional drafting skills, with experience providing written advice to corporate clients, boards and/or senior executives
Strong commercial acumen, including maintaining accurate client files, meeting budget expectations and end-of-month billing deadlines
