›Four Kansas City seats inside the New York book

Compliance recruitment Kansas City is a retained search for a compliance leader. Sartori & Partners has completed 36 compliance and regulatory leadership placements since 2017. On the nearest line, New York, 24 in-house searches closed over three years, and 4 named a Kansas City compliance seat. A privately held animal-health company in Kansas City hired its first chief compliance officer in week 11. The May 2025 OEWS median for a Kansas City compliance officer, on the O*NET table, is $77,650. Pet Food Processing counted more than 600 people at the Animal Health Summit on 31 August and 1 September 2026.

01 — The brief answer

One metro. Two licenses. No Kansas City closed-search count.

Compliance recruitment Kansas City is the retained brief a general counsel, a chief compliance officer, or a chief operating officer gives when the company needs a compliance leader it does not already employ. The person is usually in post somewhere else. The office may be in Jackson County, Missouri, or in Johnson County, Kansas, and the statute that applies is the one for the work, not the one printed on the job title. A brief that treats “Kansas City” as a single bar is the brief that stalls at the offer.

That is the work compliance recruitment is retained to do here. Sartori & Partners was founded in early 2017 by Lorenzo Sartori. The New York hub opened in 2023. The firm-wide compliance record is 36 compliance and regulatory leadership placements since 2017, inside 400+ placements (230+ in-house). The CCO clock on that book is 21 days to a shortlist and 10 weeks median to an accepted offer. Kansas City has no row in the city-constants table. The nearest published in-house line is New York, and it is kept separate below. It is not a second count of the 41, and it is not a Kansas City tally. The city hub is legal recruitment in Kansas City.

02 — Local demand

The wage survey and the license are different instruments.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Mountain-Plains release for Kansas City, last modified 11 August 2026, reports May 2025 wages. Workers in the Kansas City, MO-KS area had a mean hourly wage of $31.99, against $33.54 nationally. The legal occupational group paid a mean of $61.47 an hour locally and $67.07 nationally, and it was 0.8 percent of employment in both places. That legal-group mean is not a compliance-officer median, and it is not a chief compliance officer package. The release defines the metro as five Kansas counties — Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami, and Wyandotte — and nine Missouri counties — Bates, Caldwell, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte, and Ray. A hiring committee that reads “Kansas City” as one courthouse is reading past that definition.

The occupation that the survey actually labels “compliance officers” is SOC 13-1041. O*NET OnLine’s local-wage table for Kansas City, MO-KS puts that median at $77,650, the 10th percentile at $47,980, the 25th at $60,250, the 75th at $102,650, and the 90th at $125,200. The national median on the same table is $80,730. The Kansas statewide median on that table is $69,740. salary.city identifies the $77,650 median as a direct import of the May 2025 Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics for this metro and this SOC, and it reports employment of 3,470. The 3,470 is wage-and-salary employment in an inspection-and-enforcement occupation. It excludes self-employed workers. It is not a count of chief compliance officers, and it is not a count of open seats.

Lawyers are a different row. O*NET’s companion table for SOC 23-1011 in the same metro puts the lawyer median at $134,640, the 10th percentile at $78,310, and the 90th at $287,200, against a national lawyer median of $159,670. salary.city’s May 2025 import of that lawyer cell reports employment of about 5,310. The 5,310 includes the Missouri counties in the metro. It is not a Kansas-only headcount, and it is not the 3,470 compliance officers. A company that prices a chief compliance officer at $77,650 because that is the occupational median is pricing the inspection occupation. A company that prices the same seat at $134,640 because that is the lawyer median is pricing a different profession. Neither figure is the package in the offer letter.

The research program maps 1,480,000+ lawyers. The New York cut of that map is 67,000 lawyers. That 67,000 is the coverage figure for the nearest published line. It is not a Kansas City headcount. The interview cohort for New York is a separate count.

03 — Sector mix

Banks, animal health, and a license that follows the work.

The demand splits into shapes a single title will hide. The first is a bank. UMB Financial Corporation’s Form 10-K for the year ended 31 December 2025, filed with the SEC on 26 February 2026, describes the company as a financial holding company headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. The same filing states that the Bank Secrecy Act, as amended by the USA PATRIOT Act, requires financial institutions, including banks and broker-dealers, to implement and maintain an effective anti-money-laundering compliance program, and to file suspicious-activity and currency-transaction reports when appropriate. That sentence is the filer’s description of the statute. It is not a statement that Sartori recruits the bank’s own staff, and the street address on the cover page is not repeated here. The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City states that it is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks and that its head office is in Kansas City. The supervisory dialogue for a bank in this metro can run to that Reserve Bank, to the OCC if the charter is national, and to FinCEN on the Bank Secrecy Act. Those are different desks. A brief that names only “the regulator” has not named the file.

The second shape is animal health, and it is not the bank seat. On 8 May 2025 Merck Animal Health and the State of Kansas announced an $895 million expansion of the manufacturing facility in De Soto, Kansas, for animal biologics. De Soto sits in Johnson County, which is one of the five Kansas counties in the May 2025 metro definition. Pet Food Processing reported on 11 September 2026 that the KC Animal Health Corridor hosted its summit in Kansas City on 31 August and 1 September 2026, with more than 600 people in attendance. The same account says the corridor, anchored by Manhattan, Kansas, and Columbia, Missouri, has more than 300 companies with a business location inside it, accounting for more than half of global animal-health sales, and it calls that concentration the largest in the world. Those are the article’s claims about the corridor. They are not a Sartori census of compliance officers. The summit’s regulatory panel that week covered prescription products, supplements, and direct-to-consumer models. A biologics seat hired against an FDA or USDA file is not the AML program the 10-K describes.

Of the 24 closed New York in-house searches over three years, 4 named a Kansas City compliance seat: 2 animal-health regulatory seats, 1 bank BSA seat, and 1 combined seat. Those three numbers add to the 4. The other files in the 24 are the New York line’s other work. They are not restated here as a second sector table, and the 4 are not added to the firm-wide 41.

The third constraint is the license, and it applies only when the person will practice law. Missouri Supreme Court Rule 8.105, in the admission rules whose revisions are effective 1 January 2026, is a limited license to practice exclusively for one qualifying employer in Missouri, plus approved pro bono. The Missouri Board of Law Examiners fee schedule sets that filing fee at $1,500. Kansas Supreme Court Rule 721, amended effective 28 March 2025, is a restricted license for a single employer in Kansas. The application is due no later than 90 days after the Kansas start date. Rule 707(a)(8) sets the processing fee at $1,250. The 29 December 2025 amendment of Rule 707 changed subsection (a)(4), score transfer. It did not change the $1,250. A compliance officer who will not practice law does not pay either fee. Requiring both licenses for a non-lawyer officer shrinks the pool to a different profession.

Of the 1,675 structured interviews in the New York cohort, 29 compliance counsel said they would not take one seat that required both the Missouri Rule 8.105 license and the Kansas Rule 721 license. The 29 are a subset of 1,675. They are not 29 failed searches, and they are not a subset of the 4. The scorecard in week one, before any name is discussed, is short.

  • Which function. Bank Secrecy Act program, animal-health regulatory affairs, a utility or trade file, or more than one of those, named separately.
  • Which state the work is in. Rule 8.105 is Missouri. Rule 721 is Kansas. The fee is $1,500 on one side and $1,250 on the other. A dual requirement is a fact in the brief, not a default.
  • Whether the person will practice law. The 3,470 compliance officers in the May 2025 cell are not the lawyer row of about 5,310. Admission is a gate only for counsel.
  • Which supervisor is actually on the file. A Reserve Bank examination is not an FDA biologics inspection, and neither is the occupational median of $77,650.
  • What the Department of Justice will later ask. The Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs, updated 2024, tests authority, resources, and independence. A title without those three is a different hire.

04 — Timeline

Acceptance ends the search. The inspection and the SAR process open the next morning.

Kansas City has no closed-search count. The nearest published in-house line is New York. Over the trailing three years that line closed 24 searches, at 93 percent completion. The timeline from signed brief to accepted offer on that line is 4 to 7 months. From offer to acceptance, those 24 files ran 16 working days. A counter-offer arrived on 28 percent of them. The 16 days are the offer step. They sit inside the 4 to 7 months. They are not the notice that follows acceptance, and they are not the 90-day Kansas application window under Rule 721.

The firm-wide CCO clock is a different book. Across 36 compliance and regulatory leadership placements since 2017, the shortlist arrives in 21 days and the accepted offer in a median of 10 weeks. Ten weeks is shorter than 4 to 7 months. It is not a Kansas City median, and the 41 are not the 24. Offer acceptance on corporate mandates is 96 percent. Retention of placed in-house leaders is 97 percent at 12 months and 91 percent at 24 months. The replacement term on a retained CCO search is 12 months. Off-limits on the client’s legal and compliance department run 24 months. The 93 percent is completion of the New York in-house line. It is not a second statement of the 96 percent.

Of the 4 Kansas City compliance seats inside the 24, 2 closed inside 4 to 7 months. Those 2 are the bank BSA seat and one of the 2 animal-health seats. A privately held animal-health company hired its first chief compliance officer in week 11. Week 11 is one week past the firm-wide 10-week CCO median, and it is faster than 4 to 7 months. The remaining 1, the combined seat, ran to week 34, past that band. The miss was a brief that had named one officer for a biologics file and a bank-secrecy program.

The 16 working days and the 4 to 7 months are the New York line, used here because Kansas City has no separate count. One of the 2 animal-health seats, and not one of the 2 that closed inside the band, was a first chief compliance officer at a privately held animal-health company in Kansas City. The shortlist was in week 3. The accepted offer was in week 11. The general counsel later said: The shortlist named who had owned a biologics inspection and who had not. We hired one.

Name the function, the state, and the supervisor before the person.

The letter records the fee, the retainer, and the off-limits period before any approach.

05 — Compensation

The occupational median is not a chief compliance officer scale.

O*NET OnLine’s Kansas City, MO-KS table for compliance officers puts the median at $77,650. salary.city labels that cell as the May 2025 OEWS and puts employment at 3,470. The 25th-to-75th on the O*NET table runs $60,250 to $102,650. The national median on the same table is $80,730, so the local median sits below the national one. The Kansas statewide median on that table is $69,740, so the metro sits above the state. None of those three medians is a chief compliance officer at a bank or at an animal-health manufacturer. The lawyer median in the same metro, $134,640, is the wage for SOC 23-1011. Using it as the compliance-officer band swaps the occupation. The May 2025 legal-group mean of $61.47 an hour, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics release last modified 11 August 2026, is a third instrument. It covers the legal occupational group. It does not replace the $77,650.

The pages that carry the comparison, without inventing a Kansas City chief compliance officer band, are compliance officer salary, 2026, chief compliance officer pay, 2026, compliance attorney salary, 2026, lawyer salary in Kansas, 2026, and lawyer salary in Missouri, 2026. Those pages are not repeated here as if they were a local CCO scale. The underwriting question is which function the statute requires, which state the work sits in, and which package the employer will actually put in the contract.

The retained fee is a percentage of the compensation the company actually agrees. The fee is 25–30 percent of the hire’s total first-year compensation. Thirty percent of that fee is paid as a retainer when the search is engaged, and the retainer is kept if the client cancels. The search is retained only. A brief that later splits one combined seat into two hires changes the compensation the percentage applies to. It does not change the percentage. The fee letter states that before anyone is called. On the 24, the 16 working days are planned for the counter-offer that arrived on 28 percent of the files.

06 — How a search runs

Six steps. The Kansas City work is the function and the state line.

  1. 01 — BriefMandate, success profile and conflicts frame agreed in writing.
  2. 02 — Market mapThe live universe mapped from our coverage, not whoever is in motion.
  3. 03 — ApproachConfidential, principal-led conversations with the mapped shortlist.
  4. 04 — ShortlistUnderwritten candidates presented with evidence, not CVs.
  5. 05 — OfferPackage design, references and counter-offer defence.
  6. 06 — CloseResignation, notice and the first hundred days, managed.

The brief names which function is being hired, which statute requires it, and which state the person will work in. It names whether the hire will practice law, because Rule 8.105 and Rule 721 are lawyer licenses and the $1,500 and $1,250 fees attach to those applications, not to a non-lawyer officer. It names the supervisor that will actually examine the seat. Conflicts are checked before outreach. The approach stays blind until both sides want a conversation. The shortlist is set against that scorecard, not against whoever has told the market they are movable.

On the 4 Kansas City compliance seats inside the 24, the offer is built against the 4 to 7 months line, and the 16 working days are planned for the counter-offer on 28 percent of the in-house line. 2 of the 4 closed inside that line. The first chief compliance officer at the animal-health company closed in week 11, faster than the line and one week past the firm-wide 10-week median. Mapping uses the research program’s map of 1,480,000+ lawyers. The New York cut is 67,000 lawyers. Inside the New York interview cohort of 1,675, 29 counsel refused a dual Missouri and Kansas license. Those 29 are the compliance counsel this comparison uses. They are not a count of searches.

07 — Two files

One biologics hire in week 11. One combined seat that missed the line.

Both files are inside the 4, and the 4 are inside the 24. Neither names a company. The biologics hire is one of the 2 animal-health seats, and it is the file that closed in week 11. The bank BSA seat is the other of the 2 that closed inside 4 to 7 months, and it is not panelled here. The second panel is the combined seat, the one that ran to week 34.

KANSAS CITY × COMPLIANCE 2 FILES · ANONYMISED

First chief compliance officer, privately held animal-health company

Kansas City · one of 4 · one of the 2

Mandate
A privately held animal-health company needed its first chief compliance officer for a biologics file, separate from any bank-secrecy program.
Complication
The preferred candidate’s last role had also carried a financial-crime seat. The brief had not yet said whether the new officer would practice law in Missouri, Kansas, or both.
Outcome
Shortlist in week 3. Accepted offer in week 11, one week past the firm-wide 10-week CCO median and faster than 4 to 7 months. The contract kept the biologics file apart from bank secrecy.

Combined biologics and bank-secrecy seat, recut

Kansas City · one of 4 · the combined file · week 34

Mandate
The brief asked for one officer to cover an animal-health regulatory file and a Bank Secrecy Act program.
Complication
The 29 who refused a dual Missouri and Kansas license were a license objection, not a staffing list for this file. The two functions still failed the independence test in the Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs, updated 2024.
Outcome
The brief was split. The longer file closed in week 34, past 4 to 7 months.

09 — Questions

Compliance recruitment in Kansas City

What is compliance recruitment Kansas City hired to do?

Compliance recruitment Kansas City is a retained search for a compliance leader at a company whose office may sit in Missouri, Kansas, or both. Sartori & Partners has completed 36 compliance and regulatory leadership placements since 2017, inside 400+ placements (230+ in-house). The CCO clock on that book is 21 days to a shortlist and 10 weeks median to an accepted offer. Kansas City has no closed-search count of its own. The nearest published in-house line, New York, closed 24 searches over three years, and 4 of those 24 named a Kansas City compliance seat. The city hub is legal recruitment in Kansas City. The practice is compliance recruitment.

Which Kansas City employers actually hire a compliance leader?

Three shapes, and they are not the same seat. A bank headquartered in the city needs the anti-money-laundering program the Bank Secrecy Act requires. UMB Financial Corporation’s Form 10-K for the year ended 31 December 2025, filed 26 February 2026, describes the company as a financial holding company headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, and states that the Act requires an effective AML compliance program. An animal-health manufacturer needs a regulatory seat beside FDA and USDA files. Merck Animal Health and the State of Kansas announced an $895 million expansion in De Soto on 8 May 2025. A utility or a payments group is a third brief, and it is not priced off the occupational compliance-officer median. Of 24 closed New York in-house searches over three years, 4 named a Kansas City compliance seat.

How long does a compliance search in Kansas City take?

The nearest published in-house line, New York, runs 4 to 7 months from signed brief to accepted offer, on 24 closed searches over three years, at 93 percent completion. Offer to acceptance on those 24 ran 16 working days. A counter-offer arrived on 28 percent. The firm-wide CCO median is 10 weeks, on 36 compliance and regulatory leadership placements since 2017. 2 of the 4 Kansas City compliance seats closed inside that 4 to 7 months band. A privately held animal-health company in Kansas City hired its first chief compliance officer in week 11, one week past that 10-week median and faster than the New York band. 1 of the 4 ran to week 34 because the brief had combined a biologics file and a bank-secrecy seat. The fee is 25–30 percent of total first-year compensation. Thirty percent of the fee is the retainer at engagement, and it is kept if the search is canceled.

What does a Kansas City compliance officer get paid in 2026?

The published local number is an occupational wage, not a chief compliance officer package. O*NET OnLine local wages for Kansas City, MO-KS, SOC 13-1041, put the compliance-officer median at $77,650, the 10th percentile at $47,980, and the 90th at $125,200. salary.city identifies that same median as the May 2025 OEWS import and reports employment of 3,470. The national median on the same O*NET table is $80,730. Lawyers in the same metro sit at a median of $134,640 on the companion O*NET table, against a national median of $159,670. Those lawyer wages are a different occupation. The comparison pages are compliance officer salary, 2026, chief compliance officer pay, 2026, compliance attorney salary, 2026, lawyer salary in Kansas, 2026, and lawyer salary in Missouri, 2026.

Does a Kansas City compliance counsel need a Missouri license, a Kansas license, or both?

Only if the person will practice law for that employer. A compliance officer who will not practice law does not take either license. Where the seat is counsel, the license follows the state of the work. Missouri Supreme Court Rule 8.105, in the admission rules whose revisions are effective 1 January 2026, is a limited license to practice exclusively for one qualifying employer, plus approved pro bono. The Missouri Board of Law Examiners fee schedule sets that filing fee at $1,500. Kansas Supreme Court Rule 721, amended effective 28 March 2025, is a restricted license for a single employer in Kansas. The application is due no later than 90 days after the Kansas start date. Rule 707(a)(8) sets that processing fee at $1,250. Inside the New York interview cohort of 1,675, 29 compliance counsel said they would not take one seat that required both licenses. The 29 are a subset of that cohort. They are not 29 failed searches.

Where does a Kansas City compliance hire sit next to the rest of the legal search?

When the seat is the chief compliance officer, the mandate is a chief compliance officer search. Bank-secrecy and sanctions seats are on sanctions and AML recruitment. The wider legal department in this metro is in-house counsel recruiting in Kansas City. The city note is legal recruitment in Kansas City. The research map behind the work is 1,480,000+ lawyers. The New York cut of that map is 67,000 lawyers. That 67,000 is not a Kansas City headcount.
