In 17 closed in-house searches in Singapore over 36 months, 11 offers went to lawyers already sitting on an energy-trading legal desk, our mandate telemetry records. A shipping-only CV is not a GTP counsel CV. Of 250 interviews, 68 involved lawyers who had moved from commodities or shipping private practice in the previous three years, Sartori's Singapore cohort shows. One general counsel at a global trading company told us that GTP award files now sit inside the same bonus conversation as desk STI.
Week-one files are physical and financial crude, products, LPG, LNG, power, and carbon contracts; carbon-credit and EAC sale-and-purchase papers; GTP award-scope and qualifying-income files; charterparties; structured trade finance; sanctions and exchange rules at ICE, CME, and CIX; and SIAC or SCMA disputes. Adjacent feeders are commodities and shipping in-house seats in Singapore, LNG or carbon counsel at the same houses, and trading-hub counsel in London, Houston, or Dubai. Dual Singapore and UK qualification is the usual ask. Median offer-to-acceptance in our files is 12 working days. The typical mandate still runs 8 to 16 weeks. Enterprise Singapore's GTP rules still require approved traders to employ skilled professionals in Singapore and to perform compliance and risk management onshore; that substance test is why legal headcount follows the desk. Our Singapore in-house counter-offer incidence on this line is 29 percent.
