Salary · Dublin 2026

Law firm associate salary in Dublin is an NQ print.

A hiring partner writing the 2026 letter, and an associate reading it, are looking at the same narrow band. Legal Cheek money tables read on 7 October 2026 put Matheson at €76,000 and Mason Hayes and Curran at €78,000. The careers pages still do not print the euro. Nothing on those tables is a year-three scale.

The 2026 Dublin associate letter is one cell wide.

For law firm associate salary Dublin in 2026, six money tables sit between €75,000 and €78,000, and none of them is a year-three scale. The regulator's band around that cluster is €65,000 to €80,000.

Legal Cheek money tables read on 7 October 2026 list Matheson at €76,000 and Mason Hayes and Curran at €78,000. Four other large Dublin independents list €75,000. That is the print. It is not a ladder.

The dated rows sit in the table below. The tax arithmetic is in the next section but one.

02 The NQ print

Careers pages still print a phrase. The money table prints the euro.

The gap that matters in 2026 is not between one large Dublin firm and the next. It is between a careers page with no number and a career-press table that has one.

A&L Goodbody’s trainee rewards page, read on 7 October 2026, lists salary as a phrase. It also lists FE-1 fees, a full salary during the Professional Practice Course, an exam bonus, Law Society fees, a discretionary Christmas bonus, and a contribution to a Personal Retirement Savings Account. It does not list a euro for a newly qualified solicitor. Matheson’s trainee page, read the same day, does the same with the salary line, and states that 39 newly qualified solicitors were appointed in 2025 across seven practice areas. Thirty-nine appointments is a class size. It is not a pay scale.

The money tables are a different document. Read on 7 October 2026, Matheson’s table lists newly qualified salary at €76,000, with first-year trainee salary at €46,000 and second-year at €48,000. The profile prose on that same page says the newly qualified figure is around €75k. Arthur Cox, A&L Goodbody, William Fry and McCann FitzGerald each list €75,000. Mason Hayes & Curran lists €78,000. A&L Goodbody’s table adds that the figures are based on a range. McCann FitzGerald’s prose says the €75,000 excludes bonuses and that the firm does not disclose the figures. Use the table as a compilation. Do not send it to a remuneration committee as a firm circular.

The Legal Services Regulatory Authority put a wider sentence around that cluster. In Pathways to the Professions for 2025, it wrote that newly qualified solicitors can expect €65,000 to €80,000 at Dublin firms, footnoting Legal Cheek as accessed on 16 April 2026. The six money-table cells read on 7 October 2026 sit inside that band. The band is the regulator’s summary of a career-press list. It is not a second payroll.

The statutory floor under a trainee is a different instrument, and it is dated. The Law Society Education Committee’s 2026 PPC sheet sets the in-office minimum at the national minimum wage of €14.15 an hour from 1 January 2026, which is €26,488.40 a year on the Committee’s 36-hour week. The step from that floor to the €75,000 money-table cell is €48,511.60. That step is why an NQ letter and a trainee letter are not the same bid. The State Solicitor scales and the CSSO trainee points are on the Ireland salary table, not here.

Dollars on the table above use one rate. The European Central Bank’s euro reference on 7 October 2026 was 1.1177 US dollars. At that rate, €75,000 is USD 83,828, €76,000 is USD 84,945, and €78,000 is USD 87,181, each rounded to the nearest dollar. The LSRA endpoints convert to USD 72,651 and USD 89,416 on the same print. A later reference rate moves the dollars. It does not move the euros.

The careers page still does not print the euro. The money table does, and it stops at newly qualified.

03 What the euro banks

€31,000 of a €75,000 NQ is already in the higher rate.

The associate comparing a Dublin letter with a London one is comparing a gross figure with a tax system that bites inside the NQ cell. The company matching the letter is matching that gross, then paying employer PRSI on top.

Citizens Information records the 2026 single-person standard-rate cut-off at €44,000, unchanged from 2025. Income above that cut-off is taxed at 40 percent. Of a €75,000 newly qualified salary, €31,000 sits above the cut-off. Income tax before credits is €8,800 on the €44,000 and €12,400 on the €31,000, which is €21,200. Revenue’s Budget 2026 summary states that tax credits are unchanged: the single-person credit is €2,000 and the employee tax credit is €2,000. Revenue’s employee-credit page, published 20 March 2026, confirms the €2,000 maximum where PAYE income is at least €10,000. After those two credits, income tax on this illustration is €17,200.

Universal Social Charge is a separate charge on gross income. Revenue’s USC page, published 1 January 2026, works an example of exactly €75,000: 0.5 percent on the first €12,012 (€60.06), 2 percent on the next €16,688 (€333.76), 3 percent on the next €41,344 (€1,240.32), and 8 percent on the remaining €4,956 (€396.48). The total is €2,030.62. The illustration uses €75,000 because that income is both the four-firm cell and Revenue’s published example. The euro above €70,044 is already in the 8 percent USC band.

Employee PRSI does not have one 2026 rate. KPMG’s Budget 2026 tables record Class A1 employee PRSI at 4.2 percent through 30 September 2026 and 4.35 percent from 1 October 2026. Employer PRSI on the same tables moves to 11.40 percent from that date, from 11.25 percent. A single annual net that pretends the October step did not happen would be a homemade paycheck. The two charges that can be stated for the full year are income tax of €17,200 and USC of €2,030.62. From 1 October 2026, each extra euro above €70,044 faces 40 percent income tax, 8 percent USC and 4.35 percent employee PRSI.

The worked example is a single person with no pension relief and no other credits. A married one-income cut-off is €53,000 on the same Citizens Information table, so less of the NQ cell is at 40 percent. The illustration is the single-person case because that is the case the cut-off of €44,000 describes without a second income. It is not a take-home quote for every associate who will read an offer in 2026.

Charges that can be stated for a full 2026 year on a single person's €75,000, before the October PRSI step. Income tax is after the €2,000 personal credit and the €2,000 employee credit. USC is Revenue's published example. The higher-rate slice is the €31,000 above the €44,000 cut-off, shown as income, not as tax.

Stated for the yearSteps in October

  1. Income tax A single-person cut-off, the personal credit, and the employee credit. One charge that can be written for the whole year.
  2. USC A published example on the same income as the four-firm cell. A separate charge, not a line taken off the income tax.
  3. PRSI Employee and employer rates step in October. A full-year net that ignores the step is not a paycheck.
04 Who employs the cell

Six firms hold the NQ print. They also hold 1,950 certificates.

The money table is a first-year cell at a short list of employers. The practising-certificate count is the stock those employers actually carry.

Practising certificates at the six Dublin independents whose newly qualified cells are on the money tables above. Year-end 2025, as the LSRA ranked employers. This is headcount, not pay.

LSRA Pathways to the Professions 2025, top-employer table.

Those six counts sum to 1,950 practising certificates. The LSRA’s top-employer table puts 3,594 certificates, 29 percent of 12,430, at twenty employers, a mix of firms and public bodies. A&L Goodbody is first on that table at 399. The NQ euros in the section above are not an average of the 1,950, and they are not an average of the 8,827 certificates the same report places in Dublin. An associate at year four in a smaller Dublin office is not on the money table at all.

The class behind the next NQ round is already counted. Pathways records 581 new solicitor trainees in 2025, of whom 479 held contracts in Dublin (82 percent). Sixty-five percent were with a large law firm. Four percent were in-house. Arthur Cox accounted for 63 of those contracts, Matheson 56, McCann FitzGerald 47, A&L Goodbody 40, and William Fry 35. First-time practising certificates issued to newly qualified Law Society solicitors were 583, up 54 percent from 378 in 2024, and 95 percent of that class entered a law firm. The 2026 NQ cell is the pay of people qualifying into that concentration. It is not the pay of the 8,827.

Retention is why a company cannot treat the cell as an open-market price. Legal Cheek lists A&L Goodbody’s latest trainee retention rate at 95 percent and Mason Hayes & Curran’s at 90 percent. Matheson’s own page states the 39 appointments. A firm that keeps nine in ten of its qualifiers, at a newly qualified euro it has not put on its careers page, is the counterparty on a company search. The bid is against that keep. The Dublin market page maps which desk the hire actually sits on. The letter is priced here.

International names appear on the same employer table without a euro in the six-firm set read on 7 October 2026. Maples and Calder (Ireland) held 97 certificates, Addleshaw Goddard (Ireland) 86, and DLA Piper Ireland and Fieldfisher 79 each. Their Dublin associate cash is not inferred from a London scale. London newly qualified pay at the firms that publish a sterling floor is a different payroll, and it is not converted here.

PrintedNot a scale

  1. NQ cell A career-press euro for the first qualified year at six Dublin independents. The careers page beside it still has no number.
  2. The keep The same firms appoint and retain the class. A company offer is a bid against that appointment, not against a vacant market.
  3. Every later year No euro on the money table. The letter, if it exists, is a conversation after the NQ cell, and it is not citeable.
05 The missing year

A 3 PQE associate is not an NQ with two birthdays.

The search that stalls in Dublin is the one that asks for a year-three euro the money table does not contain, then waits for a careers page to grow one.

Across 250 structured interviews with Dublin solicitors, 58 of 84 associates at the six firms above, over a 24-month window, said the only euro their firm had put in a written offer in the last year was the newly qualified figure. A hiring partner at a Dublin funds firm told us, We will confirm the newly qualified figure. We will not send a year-three scale.

That is the segment a general counsel collides with. The seat on the requisition is usually not an NQ seat. It is a funds, regulatory, or corporate associate who has already been qualified long enough to run a file. The only public euro in the conversation is still the first-year cell. Using it as the opening number tells the candidate the company has priced the wrong year. A general counsel at a Dublin-headquartered payments company put the same point without decoration: The career-press number opened the conversation. It did not close the associate.

Google Ads Keyword Planner, measured on 11 September 2026, recorded 0 monthly searches for this salary query. The dated cells are what a company and an associate can both cite. They are not evidence that 8,827 solicitors are hunting a salary table. Sartori maps roughly 3,000 lawyers in this city. That file records admission and employer. It does not record the euro on the offer letter. Quarterly surveys have run since 2019 across the global file. The global map is 1,480,000+ lawyers. The offer letter is still read one seat at a time.

Four Dublin seats, four bids. The cash column is what a board paper can cite in October 2026. The mistake column is how the cite gets used on the wrong year.
Seat Cash a paper can cite What the letter actually is The usual mistake
Newly qualified, large Dublin independent €75,000–€78,000 on the money tables read 7 October 2026 Career-press compilation, not the careers page Treating that cell as a 3 PQE scale
Associate, year 2 to year 6 No euro on those same money tables A conversation after the NQ cell, if the firm will have it Asking the search to price a ladder nobody printed

On the year
06 Two readers

The associate and the company are not buying the same year.

One gross figure, two decisions. The associate is asking what the cell banks. The company is asking whether the cell is even the right year.

Name the year of qualification before you name the euro. The money table cannot do that for you.

  • If the seat is newly qualified, cite the table. €75,000, €76,000 or €78,000, dated 7 October 2026, and say it is a career-press cell. Do not tell the board the firm published it.
  • If the seat is 2 to 6 PQE, do not open on that cell. 11 of 14 company-side files on this line were already in that band. The first number they heard was still an NQ euro.
  • Budget the keep. Retention of 90 percent and 95 percent on two of the profiles means the training firm can match a company letter inside the 12-day acceptance window. Counter-offers on the line run at 37 percent.
  • Price tax as the associate’s problem and employer PRSI as yours. The €17,200 and the €2,030.62 come off the associate’s gross. Employer PRSI, stepping to 11.40 percent on 1 October 2026, sits on the company. The in-house payroll, once the person has left the firm, is a different page: Dublin in-house counsel salary.
  • Open the search on the right desk. Firm laterals sit on associate recruiting. Company seats sit on in-house counsel recruiting. The conversation starts at a confidential hiring brief.

Read the employment year on the letter before you compare it with a money table.

  • The table is a first-year cell. If you are newly qualified, €75,000 to €78,000 is the compilation you can point at. If you are not, the table does not contain your year.
  • Ask what is in writing. In the Dublin cohort, 58 of 84 associates at these firms said the written euro was the NQ cell. A verbal year-three number that never reaches the offer is not the offer.
  • Run the single-person tax before you compare cities. On €75,000, income tax after the two credits is €17,200 and USC is €2,030.62. The October PRSI step means a full-year net is not one multiplication.
  • The acceptance window is short. Median offer-to-acceptance on this line is 12 working days. A training firm that retained 90 percent or 95 percent of its last class can answer inside that window. Decide what you need in writing before the offer goes out.
07 Closed searches

Twenty files, and four that waited for a ladder.

Sartori has worked the Dublin associate line for 5 years. The closed-file record is 20 searches over three years. The files that ran long were priced off the wrong year.

Of 20 closed Dublin associate searches over the trailing three years, 14 were company-side and 6 were lateral seats at Dublin firms. Of those 14, 11 were in-house seats at 2 to 6 years’ qualification and 3 were NQ-year hires. The line completes at 93 percent, typically in 6 to 12 weeks. Median offer-to-acceptance is 12 working days. Counter-offer incidence on the line is 37 percent. Inside the 11 in-house seats at 2 to 6 years, 5 drew a counter-offer from the firm that had trained the associate.

4 of those 14 ran past 12 weeks because the first brief treated the career-press NQ as a firm-issued scale for a 3 PQE seat. Those 4 still closed. They closed on a second letter, after the year was named. They are the finding that cuts against the easy story: the money table was available the whole time, and it was the wrong document for the seat. A search that waits for A&L Goodbody or Matheson to print a euro on the careers page is waiting on a page that, on 7 October 2026, still did not have one.

Two composites from those 14, by role and sector only. A Dublin-headquartered UCITS manager needed a 2 PQE funds associate who had already closed a subscription document. The company did not open on €76,000. It opened on the year, the file, and a bonus that could move inside the 12-day window. The search closed in 9 weeks.

A listed technology company’s Dublin commercial seat, 3 PQE, opened on the €75,000 cell. The training firm matched that cell inside the acceptance window. The second letter moved the bonus and left the base alone, because there was still no citeable year-three euro. It closed in 11 weeks, inside the 6 to 12 weeks band, and it consumed one of the 5 training-firm counter-offers. The first letter would not have.

The company that needs the seat filled starts at a confidential hiring conversation. Retained search is the only mode, at 25–30 percent of first-year total compensation, with 30 percent of the fee paid as a retainer at the start. The associate weighing a letter starts from the year on the money table, not from a scale the table does not contain.

Associate salary in Dublin 2026: questions from both sides of the letter

What is law firm associate salary Dublin in 2026?

The dated print is newly qualified cash: Matheson €76,000 and Mason Hayes & Curran €78,000 on Legal Cheek tables read 7 October 2026. Arthur Cox, A&L Goodbody, William Fry and McCann FitzGerald list €75,000. The Legal Services Regulatory Authority’s 2025 Pathways report states €65,000 to €80,000. None of those rows is a year-by-year associate ladder. Sartori closed 20 Dublin associate searches over three years on that split.

Do Dublin law firms publish an associate scale by year of qualification?

No 2026 PQE ladder was on the six Legal Cheek money tables read on 7 October 2026. A&L Goodbody’s trainee rewards page and Matheson’s trainee page print a salary phrase, not a euro. Matheson states that 39 newly qualified solicitors were appointed in 2025. That is a headcount, not a scale. Of 84 associates at those firms inside the Dublin interview cohort, 58 said the only written euro in the last year was the NQ cell.

What does a €75,000 Dublin NQ leave after Irish income tax and USC in 2026?

Income tax on a single person’s €75,000 is €17,200 after the two €2,000 credits. Revenue’s own 2026 USC example on that same income is €2,030.62. Employee PRSI is 4.2 percent through 30 September 2026 and 4.35 percent from 1 October, so one annual net is not stated. The slice above €70,044 faces the 8 percent USC rate.

How many solicitors sit at the Dublin firms behind these NQ figures?

A&L Goodbody held 399 practising certificates at the end of 2025, Matheson 370, and Arthur Cox 344. Mason Hayes & Curran held 328, McCann FitzGerald 289, and William Fry 220. Those six sit inside 12,430 certificates nationally, of which 8,827 were in Dublin. The NQ print is a first-year cell at large firms, not a city average.

How long does a Dublin associate search take in 2026?

Typically 6 to 12 weeks, with a median 12 working days from offer to acceptance. Completion on that line is 93 percent across 20 closed searches over three years. Counter-offers run at 37 percent. 4 of the 14 company-side files ran past 12 weeks because the first brief treated the NQ print as a 3 PQE scale.

Should a company match the Dublin NQ figure for a 3 PQE associate?

No: 11 of 14 company-side files on this desk were already at 2 to 6 years’ qualification, not newly qualified. A Dublin UCITS manager hired a 2 PQE funds associate in 9 weeks by pricing the seat, not by cloning €76,000. The national trainee floor and the State scales sit on the Ireland salary table.
