Magic Circle Salary 2026: £150,000 NQ, in GBP and USD
All five London Magic Circle NQ bases sit at £150,000 for 2026 — $202,977 at the Bank of England spot on 10 September 2026. The credential that still gates the seat is not the cash. A general counsel matching that figure in-house is buying a London NQ rate, not the two-year training contract that minted it.
The 2026 cell, in two currencies.
The 2026 Magic Circle NQ cell in London is £150,000 — $202,977 at the Bank of England spot on 10 September 2026. That is the dated number this page opens on. We map about 30,000 lawyers in London; the associate line is the search this article underwrites. The credential that still gates a Magic Circle NQ seat is not the magic circle salary. It is SQE1, SQE2 and two years of qualifying work experience, which the five firms run as a funded training contract.

How the 2026 cell was set — and why it did not move.
The £150,000 NQ base is a 2024 artifact that survived the first 2025 review made public. The year sits inside every figure below.
The 2026 Magic Circle NQ salary is a 2024 artifact. Freshfields moved London NQ pay from £125,000 to £150,000 effective 1 May 2024, a 20 percent step, as Legal Cheek reported on 3 May 2024. Linklaters matched to £150,000 effective 1 May 2024, and lifted trainees from £50,000 to £56,000 in year 1 and from £55,000 to £61,000 in year 2 (Legal Cheek, 17 May 2024). Clifford Chance matched £150,000, backdated to 1 May 2024, with the same trainee cells from 1 September 2024 (The Lawyer, 29 May 2024). A&O Shearman matched £150,000 NQ and the same trainee cells, effective 1 May 2024 (Global Legal Post, 31 May 2024). Slaughter and May held at £125,000 through its spring 2024 review, then raised NQ to £150,000 effective 1 September 2024 (The Lawyer, 4 September 2024).
Slaughter and May’s spring 2025 pay review held NQ at £150,000 (2025), which Legal Cheek recorded on 6 May 2025. By 29 September 2025, Legal Cheek’s 100-firm table still listed all five Magic Circle firms at £150,000. Careers pages accessed in September 2026 still print that cell. The 2026 figure is a public hold, not a market-wide freeze proven for every peer.
Across 100-plus firms on that 29 September 2025 Legal Cheek list, the average NQ salary was £118,756 (2025), a rise of nearly 5 percent versus the prior year’s report. Legal Cheek had not published a 2026 edition of the table by 30 September 2026, so the 2025 edition is the latest cross-firm average. The Magic Circle £150,000 (2025) cell sits about 26 percent above that average. Eighteen US London outfits on the same table paid NQs more than £170,000 (2025), with Davis Polk, Gibson Dunn and Paul Weiss at £180,000 (2025). A footnote on that page recorded some London NQs paid $225,000, converted by Legal Cheek to £167,000 on 1 September 2025. Those US cells are a competing law-firm employer of the same seniority. They are not this page’s thesis, and they are not an in-house band.
The Law Society Financial Benchmarking Survey 2025, published 5 March 2025 from 145 smaller and mid-sized England and Wales practices with combined fee income over £1.1 billion, put the median cost of a fee earner at £67,476 (2025 survey). The Magic Circle £150,000 (2026) NQ base is more than double that survey’s median fee-earner cost. £67,476 is not a London NQ salary, and it is not a Magic Circle band.
The cash is public. The mid-PQE ladder is not.
The credential that still sits in front of the seat.
A general counsel matching £150,000 (2026) can buy an England-and-Wales solicitor. The Magic Circle NQ seat still requires a second overlay the SRA does not write.
SRA minimumFirm overlay
- Degree, SQE, QWE Anyone who wants the roll: a degree or equivalent, SQE1 then SQE2, two years’ qualifying work experience, character and suitability.
- City seat as QWE The five firms operationalize those two years as a funded training contract — four six-month seats, or an eight-seat / variable model — not as paralegal time split across four organizations.
- Qualify with this firm The NQ seat is gated by the firm’s own contract. Matching the cash in-house buys the practising certificate, not that overlay.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s SQE route, updated 28 January 2026, is the national minimum: a degree or equivalent; pass SQE1 then SQE2; two years’ full-time-equivalent qualifying work experience; character and suitability. Qualifying work experience, on the SRA page updated 26 January 2024, can be a training contract, paralegal work, a clinic, or up to four organizations, in England and Wales or overseas, confirmed by an England and Wales solicitor or COLP. That gate is necessary for the roll. It is not sufficient for a 2026 Magic Circle NQ seat.
SRA fees for 2025/26, from the April 2025 SQE Update, are £1,934 for SQE1 and £2,974 for SQE2 from October 2025 sittings. The January 2025 SQE1 sitting saw 6,782 candidates complete both parts, with a first-time pass rate of 60 percent and an overall pass rate including resits of 56 percent (SRA SQE Update, April 2025). Assessment throughput is not a jobs figure. It is the pipe that now feeds both Magic Circle training contracts and every other SQE route into in-house teams.
The firm overlay is stricter. Slaughter and May, on its route-to-qualification page accessed in September 2026, says it will normally require anyone qualifying to a solicitor position with the firm to have completed its full two-year contract. All future trainees take the SQE via the City Consortium Solicitor Training Programme at BPP — SQE1 prep, SQE2 prep, Plus Programme mini-seats — with a £12,000 PGDL grant and a £20,000 CCP grant. City Consortium members named on those materials are Freshfields, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, Linklaters, Norton Rose Fulbright and Slaughter and May.
Clifford Chance’s London training-contract page requires all future trainees to complete the SQE even if they have previously passed the LPC, and to pass SQE1, SQE2 and each module of Clifford Chance SQE Plus on the first attempt. A&O Shearman trains joining trainees from September 2024 via the SQE at BPP Holborn, with an academic screen of AAB (136 UCAS) or equivalent, a 2:1, and seven GCSEs at grade 6 or above including Maths and English. A general counsel hiring an SQE solicitor with two years’ QWE at a bank or a regional firm has the SRA gate. They do not have this overlay.
England and Wales solicitor supply is not a Magic Circle headcount. The SRA’s solicitor-population table recorded 178,428 solicitors with a current practising certificate as of July 2026, and 214,080 solicitors on the roll. Admissions in August 2025–July 2026 were 9,944, of which SQE accounted for 4,019 (40 percent) and LPC plus a period of recognized training for 5,391 (54 percent). The prior twelve months, August 2024–July 2025, saw 9,665 admissions with SQE at 2,933 (30 percent). The SQE share of new admissions is rising. The Magic Circle NQ seat is still a two-year contract.
Where Magic Circle associate salary is actually paid.
The lawyers who earn the 2026 NQ cell sit on Magic Circle locksteps in London, not in a general counsel's office. The desks under those seats are corporate, finance, disputes, competition and restructuring — the work a company already buys from the panel.
Clifford Chance, A&O Shearman and Linklaters still recruit London trainees into four six-month seats. Freshfields runs an eight-seat model of three-month seats. Slaughter and May requires at least two mandatory seats in Corporate and M&A and in Financing. Clifford Chance requires at least one seat in Global Financial Markets; published options include Debt Finance, Disputes, Tax and Private Equity. A&O Shearman’s core is finance, corporate, disputes and ENRI (energy, natural resources and infrastructure). Freshfields publishes exposure in commercial litigation, M&A, antitrust and competition, employment, tax and IP. Linklaters frames four seats around banks, corporates and financial sponsors. These are firm-side labels. They are the product the cash is attached to.
Chambers UK 2026 is the ranking that names the work those NQs are trained into. Clifford Chance’s own release of 16 October 2025 recorded 20 Band 1 categories, including Corporate/M&A of £800 million and above, big-ticket corporate-finance borrowers, private-equity buyouts of £500 million and above, capital-markets debt, equity and securitization, commercial and corporate litigation, competition, financial-services regulatory (contentious and non-contentious), FinTech, restructuring and insolvency, real-estate finance, and domestic and international projects. Freshfields’ Chambers UK 2026 profile is Band 1 in London for commercial and corporate litigation, competition law and competition litigation, corporate crime and investigations, big-ticket corporate-finance borrowers, Corporate/M&A of £800 million and above, restructuring and insolvency, and tax, plus UK-wide Band 1 banking litigation. Linklaters’ Chambers UK 2026 profile is Band 1 in London for competition, competition litigation, big-ticket corporate-finance borrowers and lenders, Corporate/M&A of £800 million and above, environment and climate change, and restructuring and insolvency, with UK-wide Band 1 in capital-markets debt and derivatives.
That is the mandate flow a company already buys from the panel when the Magic Circle gate is present. It is not a job description a head of legal can paste onto an in-house NQ requisition.
Legal Cheek, on 10 September 2026, recorded advertised 2026 intakes of Clifford Chance 100, Linklaters 100, Slaughter and May 85, Freshfields 85 and A&O Shearman 70. For 2027 the same directory has Clifford Chance 100, Slaughter and May 85, A&O Shearman 70, Freshfields 70 and Linklaters 60. Across 109 firms, advertised training contracts moved from 2,593 (2026) to 2,549 (2027), a fall of 44 places or 1.7 percent. Linklaters told Legal Cheek that training-contract numbers may vary from year to year and that it also runs a solicitor apprenticeship introduced in 2023. Directory intake is not a hire count.
NQ retention is the first internal hire after the gate. Legal Cheek’s 6 February 2025 report on Linklaters put the March 2025 London qualifying cohort at 48 trainees, of whom 38 accepted an NQ seat (79 percent London retention); worldwide, 57 recruits, 43 accepted (75 percent). Those London NQs started on £150,000. Legal Cheek firm profiles accessed in 2026 list latest trainee retention at Clifford Chance 78 percent (38 of 50 kept in the latest round described on the same profile), A&O Shearman 77 percent, Freshfields 68 percent, and Slaughter and May 93 percent. Slaughter and May’s own training-contract page says most of its trainees remain with the firm on qualification. Retention is a share of that firm’s trainees who stay as NQ associates. It is not an in-house placement rate.
What a general counsel is actually matching.
In-house is a growing employer type and still a minority of practising certificates. The buyer who matches Magic Circle NQ cash is a commerce-and-industry, bank, sponsor or public-body legal head — not a fifth Magic Circle firm.
The solicitor salary London companies match, when they match Magic Circle, is the NQ cell of £150,000 (2026), not a public-body trainee scale. The Law Society Annual Statistics Report 2023, published 23 January 2025 with data to July 2023, counted 162,120 practising-certificate holders, of whom 35,738 were in-house (22 percent). Private practice held 59 percent, down from 69 percent in 2014; 26,242 holders (16 percent) were unaffiliated. The SRA’s in-house thematic review of 14 March 2023 put more than 34,500 in-house solicitors across more than 6,000 organizations, around a fifth of practising solicitors, and 8,000 more in-house than a decade earlier. The SRA research report on the role of in-house solicitors broke that snapshot into commerce and industry 15,208 (59 percent of the in-house population then counted), local government 4,607 (18 percent), the Crown Prosecution Service 2,145 (8 percent), government legal services 762 (3 percent) and regulatory bodies 493 (2 percent). Thirty percent of private-sector in-house respondents in that report worked in financial services. These in-house counts carry 2023 data vintages; the SRA’s July 2026 population table (178,428 practising solicitors) is the current stock figure, and no 2026 in-house split has been published by the Law Society or the SRA.
Magic Circle London entities sit inside a thin slice of the SRA firm universe. As of June 2026 the SRA recorded 8,916 head offices: incorporated companies 5,234 (58.7 percent), LLPs 1,421 (15.9 percent), sole practitioners 1,327 (14.9 percent) and partnerships 906 (10.2 percent). The five firms are large recognized bodies, not the typical SRA firm. A head of legal who hires from them is hiring from a lockstep that most of those 8,900-plus offices do not run.
The earner is an NQ or junior associate on a Magic Circle London lockstep.
Client secondments are part of that product. Legal Cheek 2026-27 firm cards report client-secondment chances of Clifford Chance 32 percent, Freshfields 29 percent, Linklaters 22 percent, Slaughter and May 19 percent and A&O Shearman 5 percent. Clifford Chance says the vast majority of trainees who request a secondment are successful; Freshfields aims to send all trainees on a secondment in the final six months. Published destination types on those pages include a global bank, a US technology group, a life-sciences plc, a central bank, an AI research lab, a broadcaster, an insurer and a payments group. A general counsel matching NQ cash without the gate does not automatically get that supervised client secondment as qualifying work experience.
Academic screens still sit on the graduate pipe. Legal Cheek 2026-27 firm cards list Clifford Chance with no minimum A-level and a 2:1 degree; Linklaters AAA A-level and a 2:1; Freshfields no minimum A-level and a 2:1. A&O Shearman’s live 2026 careers FAQ keeps AAB plus a 2:1. Those screens filter the training-contract door. They are not a hiring spec a chief legal officer can copy onto an in-house NQ role.
The payer is a company legal head matching a law-firm cash cell.
Public-body buyers train solicitors on a different cash scale. The Government Legal Profession Legal Trainee Scheme page, last updated 14 April 2026, lists departments typically offering trainee places at the Government Legal Department, GLD Commercial / Department for Transport Legal Advisers, HMRC, the National Crime Agency and the Competition and Markets Authority. The 2026 campaign advertised over 60 trainee solicitor positions, starting early September 2028, in London, Bristol, Manchester and Leeds. Current trainee cash on that GOV.UK page: GLD / CMA London £34,695 year 1 and £39,645 year 2; HMRC London £42,631 and £42,752; NCA London £36,057 and £45,326 plus London weighting around £4,218. Post-qualification, GLD titles run Legal Officer, with regrade to Grade 7 after one year PQE. This is a public-body NQ product. A general counsel matching £150,000 (2026) is not buying it either — but it shows what the state pays when the Magic Circle gate is absent.
The Bank of England Legal careers page describes an in-house team of around 170 colleagues. Typical qualified vacancies are 1 to 4 years’ PQE, or 4+ PQE for more senior posts, across financial-services regulation, bank and payments, insolvency and restructuring, litigation, employment, contracts, procurement, data protection, PRA supervision and enforcement. The FCA’s early-careers page, accessed September 2026, starts graduate schemes at £37,000 in London and £33,600 in Leeds and Edinburgh. Neither employer publishes a £150,000 (2026) NQ cell. The Takeover Panel Annual Report 2026 notes that the Executive is staffed by a mixture of employees and secondees from law firms, investment banks and other organizations — a London public-body desk that borrows Magic Circle (and peer) associates. It is not an NQ employer at the £150,000 cell.

What a general counsel is buying when the magic circle salary arrives without the gate.
Matching the 2026 cell purchases a cash rate. It does not purchase the rotation, the SQE-plus program, or the Band 1 mandate flow the five firms attach to that rate.
What the cash isWhat the cash is not
- London NQ base A published associate salary at five UK-headquartered firms. Bonus, benefits and take-home sit outside the cell.
- Not the rotation Four or eight seats, a compulsory finance or corporate posting, and a supervised client secondment are the training-contract product, not the paycheck.
- Not PEP Profit per equity partner is a financial-year average for owners. It is not a 2026 associate scale and it is not an in-house offer.
Inside the same London interview cohort, 94 of 128 general counsel and heads of legal over a 24-month window told Sartori they had priced an in-house NQ or 1-PQE seat against the Magic Circle cash cell without a plan for the missing seat rotation. That is the company-side read of the same number the five firms print on careers pages.
A general counsel at a London-listed financial-services group described the brief as buying “the same lawyer the firms just trained,” then found the shortlist would not cover a public-takeover secondment the legal team had assumed came with the cash. A head of legal at a PE-backed industrial platform said the Magic Circle NQ they wanted treated a cash-matched in-house offer as a career-risk discount, because the two-year lockstep and the SQE-plus program were the actual product. Both conversations sat inside that 128-person segment of the same cohort.
The corporate desk under those NQ seats is sized by public M&A, not by Magic Circle mandate share. The Takeover Panel Annual Report 2026, for the year ended 31 March 2026, recorded 60 firm offers against 57 in 2024-25, with aggregate offer value approximately £51 billion against £43 billion the prior year; 12 offers were valued greater than £1 billion, and 48 Rule 9 waivers were granted against 51 the prior year. The 2025 annual report (year ended 31 March 2025) had 57 firm offers against 61 in 2023-24, aggregate value approximately £43 billion, 12 offers greater than £1 billion, and 87 offer periods commenced. LexisNexis Market Standards counted 56 firm offers in calendar 2025 with aggregate value £40.5 billion (2024: 55 offers, £54.9 billion, average £723 million). H1 2026 ran 25 firm offers against 36 in H1 2025, aggregate £35.3 billion, average £1.4 billion. Clifford Chance’s own FY25 release of 23 July 2025 said the firm advised on M&A totalling US$232 billion in 2024 and ranked sixth globally in H1 2025, citing Mergermarket. That is one firm’s announced deal value, not UK public takeovers and not a Magic Circle aggregate.

Public PEP cells belong in the table at the top of this page because they are dated and firm-released. They do not belong in an in-house offer letter. Clifford Chance reported revenue of £2.4 billion (up 9 percent) and partnership profit of £944 million (up 11 percent) for FY25, with PEP of £2.11 million and a firm USD conversion of US$3,089 million revenue, US$1,208 million profit and PEP of US$2.7 million (23 July 2025). Law Gazette, on 22 July 2026, recorded FY26 revenue of £2.6 billion (up 9 percent), partnership profit up 11 percent, and PEP of £2.3 million (up 9 percent), with £638 million of extra revenue and £295 million of extra profit since 2023. A&O Shearman’s first combined year (1 May 2024–30 April 2025) posted client revenue of GBP 2.9 billion / USD 3.7 billion / EUR 3.4 billion, profit before tax of GBP 1.1 billion / USD 1.4 billion, and PEP of GBP 2.0 million / USD 2.6 million / EUR 2.4 billion (21 August 2025). Linklaters’ FY25 revenue was £2.32 billion, up 11 percent from £2.1 billion, with PEP of £2.2 million, up 15 percent from £1.9 million (Legal Business, 22 July 2025); FY26 turnover was £2.47 billion (up 6.8 percent), pre-tax profit £1.2 billion (up 11.6 percent), PEP £2.48 million (up 11.4 percent) and a 51 percent profit margin (Law Gazette, 21 July 2026). Freshfields’ LLP accounts showed revenue of £2.25 billion for 2024-25, up 6 percent (Legal Business, 15 December 2025). London partner-pay opacity is a different article; this page will not rest an NQ offer on a PEP cell.
How the London associate desk actually fills the seat.
We have worked the London market for more than 10 years, for general counsel and heads of legal in financial services, industry and private-equity-backed groups, and for the associate desks those companies hire from. Sartori maps nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles globally and has run quarterly market surveys since 2019. Over the trailing three years we closed 33 associate searches with a 93 percent completion rate and a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks.
Cash matchProduct match
- Price the cell Open on the dated NQ or trainee figure the five firms actually print. Do not borrow a mid-PQE rung that is not public.
- Name the overlay Decide, before the longlist, whether the seat needs Magic Circle rotation or only an England-and-Wales solicitor with SQE and two years’ QWE.
- Write the brief that can close Company-side files that insist on the overlay and the cash, and nothing else, are the ones that restart.
Of 33 closed London associate searches over three years, 12 were company-side mandates to hire an England-and-Wales solicitor at or around the Magic Circle NQ cash rate into an in-house corporate or finance seat. Of those 12, 5 required a restart after the first-choice candidate treated a cash-matched in-house offer as a pay-cut in kind. The remaining 21 files were firm-side associate searches; 8 of those 21 were NQ or 1–3 PQE seats at Magic Circle or Magic Circle-adjacent London desks over the same 36-month window.
Counter-offer incidence on the London associate line is 35 percent. On the 12 company-side files, 7 of 12 first-choice candidates received a Magic Circle or US-London counter-offer; 4 of those 7 stayed at the firm. We completed 93 percent of the 33 files. The company-side subset ran to the long end of the 6-to-12-week window, and the median 12 working days from offer to signature stretched where the candidate was waiting on a firm counter. Three of the 12 company-side searches closed only after the client dropped the “Magic Circle equivalent” specification and hired on SQE plus qualifying work experience rather than on the training-contract overlay. That is the finding that does not flatter the desk: our own clients over-specify the gate, and we have closed files by talking them off a brief they arrived with.
Inside the same cohort, 61 of 86 Magic Circle associates and trainees over an 18-month window said they would not treat a cash-matched in-house offer as equivalent without a seat-rotation story they could defend to a future hiring partner. The cash cell is the easy part of the conversation. The product is not.
Two composites, described by category only. A London-listed financial-services group asked us to fill an in-house corporate counsel seat at £150,000 (2026) for an NQ-equivalent, framed as the same lawyer a Magic Circle firm had just trained. The search ran 11 weeks. The first-choice candidate held a Magic Circle NQ offer; a firm counter arrived inside the 12-day window; the candidate stayed. The file closed after the brief was rewritten around SQE and two years’ qualifying work experience in funds work, and the company hired a solicitor who had qualified at a City firm outside the five, at the same cash. A PE-backed industrial platform with a London legal team of four matched £150,000 for a 1-PQE finance counsel. The candidate declined in 8 working days after a Magic Circle NQ confirmation. We closed with a 3-PQE banking solicitor who had already left private practice and did not need the overlay sold back to them.
If the seat is a company lawyer, start from the dated cell, then decide whether you are buying the gate. If you are, the longlist is Magic Circle NQs and the clock includes a 35 percent counter-offer rate. If you are not, say so in the brief, hire an England-and-Wales solicitor on QWE and SQE, and stop calling the role a Magic Circle equivalent. For the search itself, see in-house and general counsel recruiting and associate recruiting. The method behind the London figures is on the methodology page. All-lawyer London pay lives on a separate benchmark; Silver Circle as a list is a different article.
Magic Circle pay in 2026: common questions
What is the magic circle salary for a newly qualified solicitor in 2026?
All five Magic Circle NQ bases sit at £150,000 in 2026, or $202,977 at the Bank of England spot on 10 September 2026. Clifford Chance, A&O Shearman and Slaughter and May still publish that cell on careers pages accessed in September 2026; Legal Cheek’s 29 September 2025 table listed the same five at £150,000 for 2025, and 2026 firm profiles have not moved it. Legal Cheek had not published a 2026 edition of that 100-firm table by 30 September 2026, so every cross-firm comparison on this page carries its 2025 year. The figure is London base salary, not bonus, not benefits, and not take-home pay.
What does a general counsel buy by matching £150,000 for an NQ-equivalent in-house seat?
The cash rate of a 2026 Magic Circle NQ, not the two-year training-contract overlay that produced it. Slaughter and May states that anyone qualifying into a solicitor seat with the firm will normally have completed its full two-year contract; Clifford Chance requires future trainees to pass SQE1, SQE2 and each SQE Plus module on the first attempt, even if they already hold the LPC. A chief legal officer who matches the cell is hiring an England-and-Wales solicitor with whatever qualifying work experience that person logged — which may be a bank, a regional firm, or four organizations under SRA rules, not four Magic Circle seats.
How much do Magic Circle trainees earn in London in 2026?
First-year trainees are at £56,000 ($75,778) and second-year trainees at £61,000 ($82,544) in 2026. Clifford Chance, A&O Shearman and Slaughter and May publish those two cells on careers pages accessed 11 September 2026; Legal Cheek firm profiles list the same pair for Linklaters and Freshfields. USD companions use the Bank of England spot of 1 USD = 0.7390 GBP on 10 September 2026. No 2026 mid-PQE lockstep was published by the five firms.
Is Magic Circle partner PEP the same thing as associate salary?
No. Published PEP is financial-year profit per equity partner, not a 2026 associate paycheck. Clifford Chance reported PEP of £2.11 million for FY25 (year ended 30 April 2025) and £2.3 million for FY26; Linklaters reported £2.2 million for FY25 and £2.48 million for FY26; A&O Shearman reported GBP 2.0 million for its first combined FY25. Freshfields stopped publishing PEP; Slaughter and May does not disclose it. Those omitted cells are not estimated here.
How does Magic Circle NQ pay compare with US firms in London?
Eighteen US London offices paid NQs more than £170,000 on Legal Cheek’s 29 September 2025 table (2025 figures, the latest edition), with Davis Polk, Gibson Dunn and Paul Weiss at £180,000. That is another law-firm employer of the same NQ cohort, not an in-house band, and those firm-scale tables belong to other pages. Some London NQs were paid $225,000, which Legal Cheek converted to £167,000 on 1 September 2025 — a cash premium to the Magic Circle cell, not a Magic Circle figure.
How long does it take to hire a Magic Circle-trained associate into a London in-house team?
Sartori’s London associate desk works to a typical 6 to 12 week timeline, with a median of 12 working days from offer to signature. Company-side files that try to buy the Magic Circle overlay with cash alone run to the long end of that window: of 12 such closed searches inside our 33 London associate mandates over three years, 5 required a restart after the first-choice candidate treated a cash-matched in-house offer as a pay-cut in kind. Completion on the line is 93 percent.
Employer pages, SRA tables, and the London research program.
Salary cells come from Magic Circle careers pages and Legal Cheek's dated NQ table. PEP cells come from firm results and Law Gazette copy. Solicitor stock, SQE rules and in-house counts come from the SRA and the Law Society. London associate telemetry is Sartori's.

Salary cells are London base at the named seniority. PEP is financial-year profit per equity partner, not associate pay. SRA figures are national solicitor stock and admissions, not Magic Circle headcount. Takeover Panel figures are UK public-offer counts and values, not mandate share. Sartori figures are the London associate interview cohort, mapping coverage, and mandate telemetry for this city and this search line.
