Apply in confidence →A partner-level appointment in this practice turns on the portability of the practice, far more than on any headline figure.
Our client, a leading international law firm, is expanding its Tokyo office as part of a strategic commitment to grow the platform to ten partners over the next two to three years. As part of this build-out, they seek an additional antitrust/regulatory partner to complement their existing competition team and support the firm's broader investment in Japan.
This is an immediate priority for the firm, driven by a mandate from global management to double the size of the Tokyo office. The ideal candidate will be a Japan-registered attorney with a strong competition/regulatory practice, based in Tokyo, and ready to contribute to a high-profile market expansion.
- Partner-level experience in antitrust and competition law, with a focus on regulatory matters
- Registered to practice in Japan, with a permanent base in Tokyo (four days per week in-office expectation)
- Proven track record in the Japan market; candidates without such a record will be subject to a stricter review and are more likely to be considered at a less senior level
- Relocation to Japan within 12 months acceptable, but a permanent split base is not
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute to the firm's strategic growth in the region
- Portable book of business of $2M+ (USD)
Where the match is not obvious from the description, it is still worth a conversation — the specification tends to follow the practice.
