Legal Counsel

An exciting opportunity for an experienced and commercially focused Legal Counsel to join a leading business and act as a trusted advisor at the heart of commercial, governance, and regulatory matters. This role offers broad exposure across contracts, compliance, risk, and financial crime, ideal for a legal professional who enjoys variety and business partnering.

Working closely with senior stakeholders, regulators, and external partners, you will provide pragmatic legal advice, support strategic decision-making, and help shape a strong culture of compliance and accountability.

• Lead the provision of high-quality legal advice, governance support, and regulatory guidance across the organisation.
• Support the development and delivery of the Legal and Governance strategy.
• Act as a trusted advisor on legal, regulatory, governance, risk, and compliance matters.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise on business impact.
• Support training, guidance, and stakeholder engagement to embed legal and compliance obligations.
• Assist with business continuity planning and resilience initiatives.
• Contribute to strategic projects, transformation programmes, and operational improvements.

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including client contracts, supplier agreements, NDAs, and terms and conditions.
• Provide practical legal and commercial advice throughout negotiations and mitigate legal and commercial risk.
• Support client due diligence and legal questionnaire responses.
• Maintain and develop contract templates, precedents, and playbooks.
• Assist with supplier due diligence and third-party risk assessments.

• Support governance activities and maintain effective compliance frameworks.
• Assist with regulatory investigations, reporting obligations, and correspondence.
• Manage conflicts of interest and other regulatory obligations.
• Contribute to policy development and ensure governance frameworks align with regulatory requirements and business needs.
• Support claims and complaints activities.

We are seeking an experienced legal professional with a commercial mindset and a strong background in compliance, regulatory, and contracts work. You must be able to work effectively at all levels of the organisation and thrive in a varied, fast-paced environment.

• Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience in a relevant practice area.
• Demonstrable expertise in commercial contracts, governance, risk, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong business partnering skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to monitor and translate regulatory developments into practical advice.
• Experience supporting financial crime, sanctions, or related compliance matters is advantageous.
