Traditional Labor Law Associate — Employment & Labor — San Diego

A nationally recognized management-side employment and labor practice seeks an associate attorney to join its San Diego office in a primarily traditional labor role representing employers. The position also involves advice and counsel work on federal and California workplace laws, with occasional support on workplace-law due diligence in connection with acquisitions and mergers.

Day-to-day work spans the full range of traditional labor relations: handling unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board, representing management in NLRB elections, advising employers on union organizing, corporate campaigns, card check and neutrality agreements, and negotiating or advising on collective bargaining agreements. The role also includes grievance, arbitration and unfair labor practice proceedings, and obtaining mass picketing injunctions.

On the counseling side, the associate will advise employers on federal and California wage-and-hour issues, leave management, disability accommodation and other workplace matters; review handbooks, policies and forms for compliance; review compensation, commission and bonus plans; and conduct management training on labor relations, workplace issues, and harassment, discrimination and retaliation. Regular business travel may be required.

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school
• 4–6 years of experience in litigation or advice work as an attorney
• California Bar admission
• Traditional labor experience preferred
• Federal and/or California advice and counsel experience preferred
• Familiarity with current state and federal agency enforcement approaches preferred
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and project management skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
