The buyer on this desk is a company or a public authority, not a law firm. The 2024 National Profile of Solicitors, prepared by Urbis for the Law Society of New South Wales and dated 13 June 2025, counted 7,698 solicitors in Western Australia, 8 percent of 97,500 nationally, up 14 percent from 6,737 in 2022. Mean age in Western Australia, grouped with South Australia and New South Wales, was 43. The Law Society of Western Australia's Annual Report 2024/25, citing that profile, states that women accounted for 56 percent of solicitors in Western Australia in 2024. Among private firms, Western Australia was 83 percent sole practices. Of 79 practices nationally with 21 or more principals, 34 were in New South Wales and 30 in Victoria. A Sydney partnership table does not describe the firms a Perth counsel is leaving.
The demand that does describe the city is the resources sector. The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration's Mineral and Petroleum Statistics Digest for 2024–25, published with a page update of 11 May 2026, records $220 billion in sales on production. Iron ore was $122 billion, on 864 million tonnes, a 15 percent decline from $144 billion the previous financial year, and still the largest commodity. Gold set an all-time high of $29 billion. Liquefied natural gas was $36 billion, among the highest years and below the record $57 billion in 2022–23. Table 3 of the digest prints total royalty receipts plus North West Shelf grants of $10,607.64 million. On-site mining employment was 134,009 full-time equivalent positions. Iron ore accounted for 65,496 of them. Gold accounted for 35,672. Nickel fell from 10,434 in 2023–24 to 4,698 in 2024–25. A counsel brief written as if nickel were still a growth desk is a year out of date. A brief written only as iron ore misses the gold employment that grew.
Two issuers print a Perth headquarters in their own filings. Woodside Energy Group Ltd's Form 20-F for the year ended 31 December 2024 gives Perth as the address of its principal executive offices. Fortescue Ltd's FY2025 country-by-country report states that its registered office and global headquarters are in Perth, and that a significant majority of its profits come from iron ore in the Pilbara. Its FY25 Appendix 4E, lodged 26 August 2025, records that the Fortescue Hive, the integrated operations centre, relocated in December 2024 to a new headquarters in Perth. Neither filing is a salary survey, and neither is a client of this firm. They are the shape of the buyer: a listed producer whose operating questions, tenure, heritage, joint ventures and offtake sit in Perth while the asset sits north of the city. The practice map for that work is the mining and critical-minerals counsel note. Government trading enterprises in electricity and water sit beside those producers as a second employer type. The four Legal Grade offices are a third, and they publish cash.

Those rows are why a Perth general counsel is often a projects, tenure and joint-venture lawyer who also holds the company-secretary file, and why a commercial counsel hired from a bank in Sydney may not have run a State Agreement or a heritage condition. The city hub for the wider market is Perth legal recruitment.
