A chief legal officer at a listed studio said the seat needed someone who had already lived through a dual theatrical-and-streaming consolidation. 04 — The local market
Our Los Angeles mandate telemetry records a 27% counter-offer incidence on in-house production-counsel files. FilmLA reported in 2026 that Greater Los Angeles on-location production finished 2025 at 19,694 shoot days, 16.1% below 2024. FilmLA's 23 July 2026 release put Q2 2026 on-location activity at 4,711 shoot days, 12.7% below Q2 2025, with 33.0% of feature-film days and 38.3% of TV-drama days already state-incentivized. Otis College's April 2026 creative-economy report found Los Angeles County shed 23,600 creative-economy jobs in 2025; the county still held 78% of California film, television, and sound employment after a 10% drop in that sector.
In 2026 the California Film Commission said it awarded 170 Program 4.0 projects. Those awards represented $6.6 billion in direct production spending and 34,921 cast and crew jobs in fiscal 2025–26, against a $750 million annual cap running through 30 June 2030. Disney relocated Tracker season 4 from Vancouver to Los Angeles on the enhanced credit. A head of talent at a Culver City production campus reported to us that distribution-legal counsel rarely converted onto a production desk without a year of overlap.
Tax-credit slates now pull production counsel even while permit days fall. Reuters reported on 24 July 2026 that Paramount stipulated the Warner deal shall not close before 1 June 2027 on a $110 billion transaction. Variety, on 8 September 2026, set trial for 2 March 2027. The same employer's Senior Counsel, Production Legal posting in May 2026 printed $174,600 to $225,800; both texts said a bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided. FX Networks' 15 July 2026 Burbank production-legal Attorney listed $119,700 to $154,800. Amazon MGM Studios' Associate Corporate Counsel in Culver City lists $131,500 to $178,000 plus sign-on payments and restricted stock units, live on Amazon.jobs in September 2026. Lionsgate's Attorney II, Legal Motion Picture Production, Santa Monica, posted 10 August 2026 at $115,000 to $125,000.
