The treasurer’s notes to the Milan bar’s 2025 accounts record 22,137 avvocati at 31 December 2025, up from 21,861 at 31 December 2024, and 3,675 trainees, down from 3,715. That is the roll of advocates. A company hiring interim legal talent in Milan is usually hiring a giurista d’impresa, an employed company lawyer who is not on that roll. Article 18(1)(d) of Law No. 247 of 31 December 2012 makes practicing as an avvocato incompatible with subordinate employment, including part-time employment. The stock of 22,137 names does not staff a gap that opened this week.
Sartori & Partners maps 16,000 lawyers in Milan, inside a research map of 1,480,000+ lawyers. The interview cohort for the city is 400 structured interviews. Those two counts are not added together. Of the 400, 58 were general counsel, chief compliance officers, or chief operating officers at Milan companies. Of those 58, 22 said they would buy day-rate cover before opening a permanent search if the contract vehicle was attached to the brief. The other interviews in the 400 are the city cohort shared with the Milan salary pages. They are not a second survey of interim buyers.
The employer shape a day-rate meets is dated in the public record, and it is not the bar roll. CONSOB’s Statistical Bulletin no. 29, July 2026, counted 416 supervised companies at the end of June 2026: 401 with an Italian headquarters and 15 headquartered abroad, down from 427 at the end of December 2025 and from 424 at the end of June 2025. Euronext Milan listed 195 companies, down from 198 at the end of 2025 and from 202 at the end of June 2025, after one new admission and four delistings in the first half of 2026. Euronext Growth Milan listed 203, down from 211 at the end of 2025. Vorvel stayed at 18. The same bulletin puts total market capitalization of supervised issuers at about €1,209 billion at the end of June 2026, up from about €1,077 billion at the end of 2025, a rise of 12.3 percent. Equity trading in supervised companies in the first half of 2026 was about €519 billion, up 18.3 percent on the first half of 2025. A thinner list and a larger capitalization are a legal-department problem: fewer issuers, larger ones, and the same board calendar.
Deal work sits beside that list, and it is a national figure with a Milan desk. AIFI, with PwC, presented the 2025 private-capital results in Milan on 23 March 2026. Investment across private equity, venture capital, and infrastructure was €11,610 million, down 22 percent from €14,903 million in 2024. Excluding infrastructure, investment was €8,570 million, against €8,741 million in 2024, a decline of 2 percent. The deal count rose to 887, from 732. Buyouts were €6,246 million across 210 deals. Venture capital was €1,349 million across 568 deals. Fundraising was €3,570 million, down 46 percent from €6,673 million. Divestments were 184, against 157, for a cost value of €4,661 million. Those numbers are Italy, not a Milan census. They are the calendar a Milan general counsel covers when the portfolio company, the financing, or the exit is signed in the city. A permanent seat for that calendar is a different search: in-house counsel recruiting in Milan.
