Kennedys Salary 2026: the London NQ cell, and what a wrong match costs.

The dated figure a general counsel can actually check is £85,000 for a London newly qualified solicitor. Matching that cell against a Magic Circle number, or against a lockstep this firm does not publish, does not buy a better lawyer. It buys a second search.

A wrong Kennedys nq salary match costs the second search.

The 2026 London newly qualified cell at Kennedys is £85,000. A general counsel who matches an in-house coverage or claims-legal hire against a Magic Circle number, or against a PQE lockstep this firm does not publish, does not get a better lawyer. They get a second search. Sartori maps roughly 30,000 lawyers in London. That file records employer, practice label and seniority. It does not invent a lockstep the employer has not announced.

Lens 01 · The dated cell One sterling figure, still current in 2026.

Law360 reported on 3 October 2024 that Kennedys said newly qualified lawyers at its London office were then earning £85,000. Legal Cheek listed the same cell on 29 September 2025, and its firm profile accessed on 11 September 2026 still prints it. Checkable. Dated. London only.

The London NQ cell is public, current and narrow. Everything a general counsel usually wants next to it — lockstep, bonus cash, regional NQ, PEP — is either a different vintage or not published. The published cells are listed below.

Kennedys associate salary cells that a 2026 buyer can actually cite.

Two student guides and one firm announcement are the pay record. They agree on London NQ. They disagree on trainee vintage. They leave the rest of the ladder blank.

Start with the cell a general counsel can take into a compensation committee. Law360 reported on 3 October 2024 that Kennedys said newly qualified lawyers at its London office were then earning £85,000. Legal Cheek’s Money talks table of 29 September 2025 listed the same figure, in the same row-band as Clyde & Co, Harbottle & Lewis, Lewis Silkin, TLT and Trowers & Hamlins. The Legal Cheek firm profile accessed on 11 September 2026 still prints London NQ at £85,000. Three dated sources, one sterling number, one city.

That is the whole clean NQ record. Chambers Student’s salary comparison table, accessed in 2026, still shows London NQ at £85,000 and marks regional and Scotland NQ as undisclosed. Legal Cheek’s 2026-27 profile publishes regional and Scotland trainee bands and does not print a regional NQ sterling figure. Career-community quotes of a regional NQ are out of bounds here. A head of legal matching a Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham or Edinburgh newly qualified solicitor cannot cite a 2026 primary the way London £85,000 can be cited.

Treat the trainee-band difference versus Chambers Student as a source-vintage split, not as two simultaneous official scales. Chambers Student still shows London first-year £43,000 and second-year £46,000, with regional first-year £31,000 and Scotland first-year £25,000. Legal Cheek’s later profile is the 2026-27 compilation; Chambers Student is the prior published row. Report both. Do not average them into a third number the firm never announced.

Hours on the same Legal Cheek profile are survey averages, not a time-and-motion study. The Legal Cheek Trainee and Junior Lawyer Survey 2026-27, covering more than 2,000 trainees and junior associates, attributes an average start of 08:48 and finish of 18:13, with annual target hours of 800 in year one rising to 1,200 in year two. Annual leave is 25 days, rising to 27 after five years, plus a well-being day. Those figures describe a working pattern. They are not a salary input.

The advertised UK training-contract headline moved. Legal Cheek, on 10 September 2026, recorded advertised places at Kennedys falling from 31 on the 2026 Most List to 16 on the 2027 list, against a 109-firm movement from 2,593 to 2,549 places (−1.7 percent). Chambers Student’s True Picture 2026 edition separately states the firm generally offers around 25 UK training contracts a year, typically receives around 2,000 applications, and takes about 100 candidates to assessment center. Those are different objects: advertised list places, a typical annual offer, and an application funnel. Qualification in 2025 kept 31 of 33 qualifiers, per the same True Picture; Legal Cheek prints a latest retention rate of 75 percent. The NQ-table retention argument lives on its own page. Here the two retention vintages are reported, not blended.

England and Wales qualification sits on the Solicitors Regulation Authority SQE route: a degree or equivalent level 6, SQE1 and SQE2, two years’ qualifying work experience, and suitability checks, as the SRA page set out in August 2025. The firm funds LLM SQE1 and SQE2 at BPP before a rotational training contract, and runs a parallel 30-month graduate apprenticeship combining qualifying work experience with CILEX Level 6 and SQE. Chambers Student records an SQE program launched in 2021: 40 SQE-route trainees recruited since launch, 16 successfully qualified. That is a pipeline statistic, not a pay cell.

03 Who earns it, who pays it

The person on the payroll is at the firm. The person who funds the cell sits at an insurer.

More than half the book is defendant claims. A general counsel matching this NQ is usually buying coverage, claims-legal or panel skill — or instructing the firm that trains it.

Two readers share this page. The Kennedys NQ, associate or partner who earns the 2026 figure sits almost entirely on a law-firm defendant-insurance desk. The general counsel, chief legal officer or head of claims legal who pays it sits at a composite or P&C carrier, a reinsurer, a Lloyd’s managing agent, a medical-malpractice insurer, or a public indemnifier. Kennedys’ insurance-and-claims service page states that defendant claims work accounts for more than half of the business. That mix is the hiring label. It is not a Magic Circle corporate seat, and it is not a funds practice.

The UK franchise is the largest single market. The firm’s United Kingdom page records 13 offices, 160-plus partners and 1,500-plus people, with the core of the business described as defendant claims legal services for insurers and reinsurers, corporates, healthcare providers and public-sector bodies. The office list is Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield, Taunton and Newcastle. Northern Ireland is described as the only pure litigation practice in the jurisdiction with a focus on the insurance industry. Do not invent a fourteenth city.

01

Insurer and reinsurer general counsel

Composite P&C groups, life and health carriers, and London Market managing agents. The in-house seat is coverage counsel, claims legal, or panel management — the same defendant-claims skill set the firm trains.

02

Public indemnifier

NHS Resolution Lot 1 (claims) includes Kennedys; Lot 2 (regulatory, health and employment) does not. The panel was extended to 28 February 2027 while a 2026 re-procurement runs.

03

Healthcare providers and medical-malpractice insurers

NHS trusts, private hospitals, clinics and medical defense organizations. Chambers UK 2026 ranks the firm Band 1 UK-wide for Clinical Negligence: Mainly Defendant.

04

Corporate defendant general counsel

Construction, aviation, retail, energy and life-sciences legal departments that buy liability defense rather than coverage advice. This is the minority buyer, not the core franchise.

Who instructsWho earns

  1. The buyer Insurer, reinsurer, Lloyd’s managing agent, medical-malpractice carrier or NHS Resolution. The general counsel or head of claims legal sets the panel brief and the in-house requisition.
  2. The firm payroll Kennedys Law LLP pays the NQ. Fees from defendant claims, coverage and panel work fund that payroll. The partnership, not the carrier, signs the employment contract.
  3. The published cell London newly qualified base is the figure both readers can check. In-house coverage and claims-legal seats that absorb the same skill set are matched against it, not against a corporate lockstep.

NHS Resolution is the public-body buyer under the defendant clinical-negligence desk. Its 21 January 2022 announcement appointed 11 firms from 1 March 2022. Lot 1 (claims) — clinical and non-clinical indemnity schemes for NHS members, hospital trusts, GP practices and independent-sector providers — includes Kennedys, alongside Bevan Brittan, Browne Jacobson, Capsticks, Clyde & Co, DAC Beachcroft, DWF Law, Hempsons, Hill Dickinson and Weightmans. Lot 2 (regulatory, health and employment law) does not include Kennedys. Estimated framework spend was approximately £193 million per annum exclusive of VAT across both lots (Lot 1 £188 million; Lot 2 £5 million), with no guarantee of work or value. The Law Gazette repeated the £193 million figure on 24 January 2022.

A Find a Tender VEAT notice dated 18 February 2026 extended the current legal-services contracts to 28 February 2027 while a 2026 procurement is completed. Kennedys Law LLP is named as a contractor. Total procurement value excluding VAT is printed as £772 million; the notice states values per provider are indicative only and not confirmed. That figure is not this firm’s book. Case volumes in the notice: the Authority received 13,784 clinical and 3,359 non-clinical cases in 2024/2025. NHS Resolution’s annual report for 2024/25, the later census, records notified clinical schemes at 14,428 against 13,784 the year before (+4.7 percent), with CNST at 11,396. These are NHS England indemnity-scheme volumes, not Kennedys matter counts. They size the public buyer’s demand for defendant clinical-negligence solicitors on the Lot 1 panel through February 2027.

Chambers UK 2026, compiled by the firm on 16 October 2025, is the hiring-label list rather than a wish list: 24 practice areas, eight Band 1 rankings, 55 lawyers individually recognized. UK-wide Band 1 covers Clinical Negligence: Mainly Defendant; Health & Safety; Insurance: Contentious Claims & Reinsurance; Personal Injury: Mainly Defendant; and Transport: Logistics. Insurance: Volume Claims is Spotlight. A general counsel matching an NQ is buying one of those defendant and insurance labels. The Magic Circle salary page owns the corporate NQ cell that sits in a different practice graph.

The United States is an insurer-side coverage and defense story, not a published Cravath-scale office. The U.S. country page records 12 offices, 100-plus partners and 280-plus lawyers, with presence from the June 2017 combination with Carroll McNulty & Kull. Chambers USA 2025, in the firm’s 5 June 2025 release, ranked Band 1 Insurance in New Jersey and insurer-side dispute resolution in Illinois, New York and nationwide. North America revenue is the pay-adjacent fact that is public: almost £110 million in FY25 and +22.5 percent in FY26, on the firm’s own releases. A U.S. associate dollar scale is not. It is omitted.

Global scale has to be banded, because the definitions do not match. The about-us page accessed in 2026 states 2,900-plus people, 18 countries, 45 offices and 363 partners, with £428 million total global revenue for 2024/25. The 1 May 2026 promotions release puts the partnership at 359. FY24 firm copy said total headcount over 2,750. FY25 LLP staff stood at 2,477. The DEI page still says more than 2,300 people. Band the workforce in the low-to-mid thousands and the partnership in the high 350s. Do not pick a single headcount and do not treat a people figure as a lawyer census.

04 The second search

The cost of a wrong 2026 match is not the cell. It is the file you run twice.

Sartori has worked the London associate market for more than ten years. The expensive outcome on this desk is not a declined offer. It is a requisition that was priced against a table this employer does not sit on.

In that London interview cohort, 82 of the 140 respondents sitting as general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal at insurers, reinsurers, managing agents and public indemnifiers over a 24-month window named the NQ-to-year-three defendant-claims band as the seat they most often mis-price. The error is almost always the same shape: the buyer has seen a Magic Circle or U.S. lockstep cell, or the Legal Cheek Most List average, and has written that number onto an insurance-disputes brief.

The four replacement files inside those eleven insurance-disputes mandates were not slow markets. They were corrected briefs. A group general counsel at a UK composite P&C carrier told us, over that same window, that the coverage hire had been budgeted against the table average; the candidate they wanted was already sitting on the published London cell and treated the in-house band as a cut. The second search closed. The first one had already consumed a quarter of panel-instruction capacity the legal department had planned to insource.

One finding cuts the other way, and it is on us. Of those eleven insurance-disputes associate files, three ran past twelve weeks because the brief asked Sartori to produce a PQE 1–8 Kennedys lockstep the firm does not publish. We spent the first six weeks of each of those three files educating the brief rather than running the market. A search desk that accepts a lockstep the employer has not announced is not being thorough. It is wasting the only calendar the general counsel will be asked about at the next board meeting.

Counter-offer incidence on the London associate line is 35 percent over the trailing three years. When the first hire was priced against the wrong table, the incumbent firm does not need to stretch far to retain: it is already paying the published cell the in-house brief just tried to beat with a number from another franchise. Median offer-to-acceptance on completed files is the same 12 working days the accordion carries. The typical timeline remains 6 to 12 weeks — unless the file is a replacement, in which case the second mandate is a second 6-to-12-week clock, not an extension of the first.

Wrong cellSecond mandate

  1. The imported number A Magic Circle corporate cell, a U.S. lockstep, or a Most List average is written onto an insurance-disputes brief. The published London NQ is treated as a floor to be improved rather than as the desk.
  2. The failed first hire The candidate who actually sits on this franchise declines, or accepts and leaves when the work does not match the pay table that recruited them. The original calendar is already gone.
  3. The replacement file The brief is rewritten against the published cell and the defendant-claims label. That is a new mandate. It is not a continuation of the search that used the wrong table.

A head of claims legal at a Lloyd’s managing agent put the same sequence in plainer language: the second search after a mis-matched NQ cost them a full panel-instruction quarter they had planned to bring inside. That is the cost a compensation committee does not see when it debates whether £85,000 looks light against a corporate table. The light number is not the salary. The light number is running the desk twice.

On the earn side of the same cohort, 61 of 96 London NQs and junior associates on insurance-disputes desks over that 24-month window said they would not move in-house for a cut below the published London NQ cell once they had seen it printed. The in-house coverage or claims-legal seat has to clear that bar on cash, or it has to clear it on scope, title and the end of timesheets. Hoping the candidate has not looked at Legal Cheek is not a compensation strategy.

Sartori’s quarterly survey since 2019 is the instrument behind those cohort reads, and the London associate mandate telemetry is the instrument behind the closed-file counts. Global mapping runs to nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles; the London file is a city cut of that program, not a second research franchise. We close associate searches in this city at a 93 percent completion rate. The 7 percent that do not complete are usually briefs that should have been rewritten on day one, including the three files that asked for a lockstep the firm does not publish. That is not a market failure. It is a briefing failure we were slow to refuse.

The light number is not the salary. The light number is running the desk twice.
On the cost the committee misses
05 Partner economics

Partner pay without a PEP: the highest-paid member, the wage bill, and a U.S.-heavy promotions round.

Legal Cheek still prints profit per equity partner as Undisclosed. The public record is an LLP profit figure, a highest-paid member, and a partnership count — not a typical-partner paycheck.

The Law Gazette, on 13 February 2026, reported Kennedys Law LLP pre-tax profits of £128.6 million before members’ remuneration and profit shares for the year to 30 April 2025, up 20 percent. Staff costs were £205 million, from £183 million. Staff numbers were 2,477, from 2,260. LLP members were 358, from 337. The highest-paid partner was £1,717,000, from £1,544,000. Geographic income in those LLP accounts: UK £209 million, from £194 million; North America £105 million, from £86 million. The Gazette stated the firm declined to comment. Companies House confirms last accounts made up to 30 April 2025, with the next accounts to 30 April 2026 due by 31 January 2027.

That highest-paid member is not a typical-partner figure, and dividing £128.6 million by 358 members is not PEP. Legal Cheek prints the PEP cell as Undisclosed. The FY26 firm release and the FY25 June release do not publish it either. A general counsel who needs a partnership benchmark for an in-house counter-offer does not have one. They have a top-of-house number and a profit-before-members number. The London partner-pay page is the place to read that distinction; this page will not back into a Kennedys PEP the firm has not released.

Firm-stated global fee income, three financial years ending 30 April. FY26 is preliminary and was subject to final audit when reported on 10 June 2026.

Kennedys FY24 (2 July 2024), FY25 (4 June 2025) and FY26 (10 June 2026) releases; Legal Business, 11 June 2026.

FY26 preliminary global revenue was £457 million, +9.1 percent, for the year ending 30 April 2026, announced 10 June 2026 — the twelfth consecutive growth year. Legal Business, on 11 June 2026, repeated £457 million against a prior-year £428 million. North America revenue rose 22.5 percent; APAC rose 20.3 percent; those two regions together were 43.7 percent of global revenue. The UK remained the largest market: £215 million, 47 percent of global, +3.6 percent. EMEA and LATAM combined were 9.2 percent. The restated goal is USD 1 billion global turnover by the end of FY31. FY25, announced 4 June 2025, had been £428 million (+13 percent), with Latin America +27.1 percent (almost £13 million) and North America +22 percent (almost £110 million). FY24, announced 2 July 2024, had been £384 million (+17 percent).

The 1 May 2026 promotions release elected 20 new partners and put the global partnership at 359 — the seventh consecutive year of double-digit partner promotions. Ten of the twenty were in the United States (Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Wilmington, New Jersey, New York), with the remainder in Australia, Hong Kong and the UK (Bristol, London, Manchester, Newcastle). Practice labels in the bios, used here as hiring signals rather than as pay, were insurance coverage, liability defense, construction, aviation, financial lines, professional indemnity, cyber and D&O. That is the seniority the North America revenue growth is hiring. It is not a published U.S. lockstep.

Female partnership mix is another vintage split. The 2024-25 Responsible Business Report, highlighted on 24 November 2025, put global female partnership at 36 percent (unchanged against the prior reported level in that sentence), with a goal of 40 percent by 2030; laterally hired female partners at 47 percent against 25 percent in 2021; APAC female partnership at 44 percent; UK at 38 percent; and 99 percent of employees on the living wage. Legal Cheek’s firm profile prints UK female partners at 40 percent. Report both. The DEI page still states the 40 percent female-partnership goal by 2030 and that a 30 percent goal was hit in 2020.

Bonus quantum is not public. Bonus incidence is. The UK statutory gender-pay filing for Kennedys Management Services Limited, snapshot 5 April 2025, 2025-to-2026 reporting year, shows 29.9 percent of women and 35.4 percent of men received bonus pay. Women’s median bonus pay was 23.09 percent lower than men’s; women’s mean bonus pay was 51.53 percent lower. Women’s median hourly pay was 30.5 percent lower (mean hourly 24.8 percent lower). Headcount band on that snapshot: 1,000 to 4,999 employees. The registered address matches the LLP. This is the services company, not a partner-profit disclosure, and it is not a cash-bonus scale a general counsel can write into an offer letter.

06 The wallet

The insurance market that pays those desks is still large. It is not a salary scale.

Lloyd's premium, U.S. liability losses and firm-stated matter values explain why the desk exists. They do not convert into an associate lockstep, and they are not Kennedys' share.

Lloyd’s FY2025 results, published 19 March 2026, put gross written premium at £57.9 billion (2024: £55.5 billion), +4.2 percent, of which +10.3 percent volume, −3.7 percent price and −2.4 percent FX. Profit before tax was £10.6 billion. Combined ratio 87.6 percent. Underwriting result £5.2 billion. Prior-year reserve releases of 1.7 percent of combined ratio came with strengthening in aviation and casualty partly offsetting property releases. That is the London insurance-disputes wallet around the NQ cell. It is not the firm’s share of it, and it is not a reason to write a Magic Circle number onto a defendant-claims brief.

The H1 2026 CEO statement, dated 3 September 2026, still showed growing premium and softer rates. Gross written premium +6.9 percent; combined ratio 90.8 percent; underwriting profit £1.9 billion; profit before tax £3.5 billion (−16.8 percent versus H1 2025) on weaker investment return. Risk-adjusted rate change −6.7 percent. Full-year outlook unchanged: GWP £64 billion ±5 percent, combined ratio 90–95 percent. The CEO named “legal system abuse” among drivers of inflated claims costs. That line is a named driver of the claims-cost environment. It is not a Kennedys matter count.

The U.S. liability pool sitting under the firm’s North America growth is larger still. Swiss Re’s P&C reinsurance CEO, speaking at Monte Carlo on 7 September 2026 and reported on 8 September 2026, put 2025 U.S. commercial liability losses at $174 billion, against global natural-catastrophe losses of $120 billion. The P&C chief underwriting officer cited 190 U.S. legal verdicts of $10 million or more in the last year, +41 percent year on year, with stated underwriting appetite for new liability business almost zero while keeping the existing book. AM Best, at its 6 September 2026 RVS briefing quoted in the same article, named social inflation, legal-system abuse, litigation funding and nuclear verdicts in commercial auto, general liability, excess and umbrella, with continued adverse prior-year development on accident years 2022–2024 in calendar 2025. A general counsel at a U.S. carrier reading those figures is looking at the work the coverage and defense desks run. They are not looking at a published Kennedys dollar scale, because there isn’t one.

Swiss Re’s 24 September 2025 behavioral study, a nationally representative survey of 1,150 U.S. adults, sized the jury-side mechanism rather than the dollar market: 56 percent believed there are too many lawsuits, down from 90 percent in 2016, and 76 percent said damages are too low or just right, up from 58 percent in 2016. Nuclear verdicts were defined as awards over $10 million. In the motor scenario, a $100 million plaintiff anchor raised average LCR awards to $20 million, from $3 million at a $5 million anchor. That is attitude and simulated awards. It is not insured losses, and it is not a salary input.

Matter values the firm itself attached to FY25 and FY26 growth are dispute values, not fee quotes and not a salary input. The 10 June 2026 release named counsel of record for insurers in NFL head-trauma coverage litigation involving a $1.4 billion-plus settlement fund, alongside Middle East conflict claims, Grenfell-related police investigation work, and Welsh Water group claims described as the UK’s largest environmental group action. The 4 June 2025 release named multi-billion-dollar aviation-lessor claims after Russian airlines failed to return 500 Western-leased aircraft, Greensill Capital claims, PFAS/AFFF coverage for USD 12 billion-plus settlements in U.S. MDL, and World Rugby concussion group actions by 350-plus former players. Those figures explain why the desk is busy. They do not fill the PQE hole in the salary table.

07 How to match

Price the published cell. Write the defendant-claims label. Do not wait for a lockstep.

The earn-side reader wants the figure they can take to a conversation. The pay-side reader wants to know what happens if they write the wrong one into a requisition.

An anonymized composite from the London associate book, presented as a Sartori engagement: the head of legal at a UK composite insurer opened a coverage-counsel requisition at NQ to year two, briefed against the Legal Cheek Most List average. The shortlist was competent and the first-choice candidate declined within the 12-day offer window, already sitting on the published London cell at a specialist insurance firm. The replacement brief, rewritten against £85,000 and an insurer-panel secondment history, closed in nine weeks. The original file had already used six. That replacement sits inside the insurance-disputes associate book already counted, not a new file total.

A second composite: a chief legal officer at a medical-malpractice insurer needed a defendant clinical-negligence senior associate who could read an NHS Resolution panel file. The brief named Lot 1 literacy and inquest experience, not a corporate NQ table. The search closed in eleven weeks on the 6-to-12-week band, against a firm-side counter-offer. The uncomfortable version of that file is the one where the same buyer asks us for a published PQE band first, and we spend six weeks discovering there isn’t one.

Your exposure is a second search, not a light-looking cell.

  • Cite the London NQ. £85,000 is the dated cell. Write it into the requisition if the seat absorbs Kennedys-trained coverage or claims-legal skill.
  • Do not import another table. The Magic Circle NQ and the Most List average are different desks. The sibling pages own them.
  • Stop waiting for a lockstep. PQE 1–8, bonus cash, regional NQ and U.S. associate dollars are not public. A brief that demands them stalls on day one.
  • Name the buyer type. Insurer, reinsurer, managing agent, medical-malpractice carrier or NHS indemnifier. A technology-company corporate brief is a different hire.
  • Budget the replacement. A mis-priced first hire is a second mandate, not an extension of the first calendar. Counter-offers on this line run at the city rate.
  • Use the in-house desk when the work is standing. Panel instruction is right for episodic volume. A named signer on coverage, claims or clinical-negligence strategy is a payroll seat. Start at in-house counsel recruiting.

Your published number is London NQ. Everything senior of that is a conversation, not a table.

  • Take the published cell as given. It has been the London NQ base since the 3 October 2024 announcement and remains the printed cell in 2026.
  • Do not expect a published lockstep. PQE bands, bonus pools and PEP are not in the public record. Asking a recruiter to produce them is asking for an estimate this page refuses to make.
  • In-house will match the cell, or it will not. Coverage and claims-legal seats inside carriers are the natural absorb. They clear on cash, or they clear on scope and the end of timesheets.
  • Regional NQ is not a number you can cite. Chambers Student marks it undisclosed. Treat a Manchester or Edinburgh conversation as a negotiation, not as a table lookup.
  • Qualification odds sit on insurance teams. Chambers Student describes those odds as highest in insurance; 31 of 33 qualifiers were kept in 2025. Retention is a different article.
  • Explore on a no-names basis. The associate search line is the firm-side book; the CV route is submit your CV.

The company conversation is the one this page closes on. A general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal who needs to put a Kennedys-trained lawyer on the payroll — or to stop paying a panel rate for work that has become a standing desk — should start with the published London cell and the defendant-claims label, then decide whether the seat is in-house or instructed. Sartori will tell you if the requisition is over-specified. We should have said that earlier on the three files that asked for a lockstep the firm has not published. We will say it on day one now.

Questions both readers ask about Kennedys pay in 2026

What is the Kennedys nq salary in London in 2026?

London newly qualified solicitors at Kennedys earn a published base of £85,000 in 2026. Legal Cheek listed that cell on 29 September 2025, and the firm announced the rate on 3 October 2024; the Legal Cheek profile accessed on 11 September 2026 still prints £85,000. PQE lockstep, bonus cash and regional NQ are not public and are not estimated here.

Does Kennedys publish an associate lockstep or a 2026 bonus scale?

No public PQE 1–8 lockstep or bonus-as-cash figure exists for 2026. What is measured is bonus incidence: on the 5 April 2025 gender-pay snapshot for Kennedys Management Services Limited, 29.9 percent of women and 35.4 percent of men received bonus pay.

What does Kennedys pay partners in 2026?

Profit per equity partner is undisclosed. The FY25 LLP accounts, reported by the Law Gazette on 13 February 2026, show a highest-paid member of £1,717,000 and profit before members’ remuneration of £128.6 million for the year to 30 April 2025.

How should a general counsel match a Kennedys-trained hire in-house?

Match the published London NQ cell of £85,000, not the Legal Cheek 2025 average of £118,756 and not a Magic Circle corporate number. The person who earns that cell trained on defendant claims, coverage and panel work; an in-house coverage or claims-legal brief that ignores that desk is a different job wearing the same year.

Why is there no regional or Scotland NQ figure on this page?

Chambers Student marks regional and Scotland NQ as undisclosed, and Legal Cheek’s 2026-27 profile prints regional trainee rates without a regional NQ sterling cell. A Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham or Edinburgh match cannot cite a 2026 primary the way London £85,000 can.

How long does a London insurance-disputes associate search take?

Sartori’s London associate desk typically closes in 6 to 12 weeks, with a 35 percent counter-offer incidence on that line over the trailing three years. A replacement file after a mis-priced first hire is a second mandate, not an extension of the first calendar.

London NQ £85,000 is the only clean 2026 associate cell; trainee bands differ by source vintage and are not averaged. Retention 31 of 33 (2025) and Legal Cheek's latest 75 percent are different cuts. UK female partners 38 percent (Responsible Business, 24 November 2025) and 40 percent (Legal Cheek) are different cuts. Partnership 359 (1 May 2026) and 363 (about-us page) are a vintage split. NHS Resolution £193 million and £772 million are panel-wide, not Kennedys fees. Headcount is banded because LLP staff, firm people and mislabeled lawyer counts do not match. PEP, PQE 1-8, bonus cash, regional/Scotland NQ and U.S. associate dollars are not public.

Our own numbers — the London interview cohort, the associate mandate telemetry, the counter-offer incidence and the offer-to-acceptance window — come from the continuous research program described on our research page, which sets out the cohorts, the survey waves and the mapping coverage behind every Sartori figure quoted above. The method sits on methodology. Adjacent London pay maps live on lawyer salary in London and on Silver Circle salary 2026; this page owns the Kennedys cell only.
