Law Firm Partner Compensation in Ireland 2026
PayScale's 6 February 2026 Ireland partner average is €111,839 on 12 profiles. That is leftover newly-qualified money. The of-counsel, salaried partner or in-house head of legal a company should not discard when matching sits on the other price.
The leftover average is not partner money.
Sartori maps 3,000 lawyers in Dublin. The 2026 partner a company should not discard when matching law firm partner salary Ireland is the of-counsel, salaried partner or in-house head of legal sitting above leftover newly-qualified lockstep — not the High Street principal the public average still prices.
PayScale, last updated 6 February 2026, puts average base salary for “Law Firm Partner” in Ireland at €111,839 on 12 self-reported profiles. That band overlaps senior-associate and leftover newly-qualified Dublin lockstep, not Big Six equity drawings. Twelve profiles. The wrong seat.

What law firm partner salary Ireland actually prices
Open on the dated 2026 number. It is a job-title average on a thin sample. Equity is a second market, visible only as a gap.
PayScale, last updated 6 February 2026, reports average base salary for the job title “Law Firm Partner” in Ireland of €111,839, a median of €112,000, a 10th-to-90th percentile of €70,000 to €176,000, bonus of €3,000 to €20,000, and total pay of €70,000 to €196,000, on 12 salary profiles. Experienced partners (10 to 19 years) average total compensation of €113,406 on seven salaries; late-career partners (20+ years) average €130,000. That is what the tracker measures: self-reported base and bonus for a title, not profits per equity partner at a named firm. A late-career print of €130,000 that still sits inside leftover newly-qualified lockstep is the tell: it is not an equity partner salary. UK Magic Circle PEP is a contrast price, not an Irish driver. Central Statistics Office administrative earnings for 2024, released 29 July 2025, put Dublin mean annual pay across all sectors at €65,822 and the Dublin median at €49,224. Financial, insurance and real estate median annual pay was €59,023. Partners drawing profits are not in that employee series. A funds or lessor general counsel matching a partner off the Dublin all-sector median is matching leftover employee scale a second time.
Irish Big Six firms do not publish a 2025 or 2026 profits-per-equity-partner figure in euro on a primary page we can cite. The statutory substitute is the gender-pay-gap cliff under the Gender Pay Gap Information Act 2021. Arthur Cox’s November 2025 filing, snapshot 30 June 2025, puts the mean gap at 1 percent excluding equity partners (3 percent in 2024) and 58 percent including them (60 percent in 2024). The median gap including equity is 15 percent (23 percent in 2024). The mean bonus gap is 19 percent excluding equity and 77 percent including it. As of 1 July 2025, 35 percent of equity partners at the firm were women, 54 percent of fixed-share partners, and 41 percent of the overall partnership. Six female partners were appointed in the year, three of them to equity. The 57-point jump when equity enters the ratio is not a diversity anecdote. It is the public evidence that owner drawings sit in a different market from employee and fixed-share pay.
Leftover titleOwner drawings
- Leftover “partner” title Self-reported job-title pay. High Street principal, small-firm partner, salaried title overlapping senior-associate lockstep.
- Salaried partner, of counsel, in-house head of legal Employee or counsel economics. The seat a company actually matches when it says partner and means commercial seniority.
- Equity partner Owner, not employee. Visible in 2025 as a gender-pay-gap cliff, not as a published euro PEP.
10th percentile of base

PayScale, n=12 ↗A&L Goodbody’s 2025 gender-pay-gap report ladders the same workforce three ways, which is why it is the cleanest public definition of salaried partner versus equity partner in this market. Mean hourly gap: 9.9 percent excluding all partners (12.4 percent in 2024); 17.3 percent excluding equity partners only (20.2 percent in 2024); 58 percent including all partners (unchanged). Lawyers are paid the same base salary by years qualified. Thirty-six percent of partners were female; the firm states the figure improves to approximately 40 percent from 1 January 2026 after the latest promotion round. Mason Hayes & Curran, reporting on a 2025 headcount of 615 (591 in 2024) and 119 partners (116 in 2024), puts the mean hourly gap at 51 percent including partners and 11 percent employees-only. Forty-three percent of those partners were female. The Irish Times, compiling the six largest solicitor employers on 12 December 2025, put employee-only mean gaps at −1.0 percent at William Fry (women higher), 1.0 percent at Arthur Cox, and 16.2 percent at Matheson — the highest of the six, for a third consecutive year. The Big Six employee-only average was 8.5 percent, against 6.5 percent for 2023. Gaps including equity partners ran from 37 percent at William Fry to 58 percent at both A&L Goodbody and Arthur Cox, averaging 51.8 percent, down from 55 percent two years earlier. Women equity partners across the sector were put at about 37 percent. McCann FitzGerald, in the same compilation, put women equity partners at 36 percent (30 percent in 2022), with 43 percent of 14 new partner promotions or hires in the year women. Mason Hayes & Curran was reported at 60 percent women solicitors. McCann’s role split was consultant, director or head of function 7 women / 7 men; solicitors including salaried partners 111 women / 88 men; trainees 76 women / 60 men. Four of the next five largest solicitor employers after the Big Six were public bodies, almost 600 solicitors between them on the 2024 table.
| Filing | Employee / ex-equity mean gap | Including equity mean gap | What the jump measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| A&L Goodbody, 2025 | 9.9% excluding all partners; 17.3% excluding equity only | 58% | Salaried partner (employee) versus owner |
| Mason Hayes & Curran, 2025 | 11% employees-only | 51% (119 partners) | Self-employed partners included voluntarily |
| Big Six compiled, 12 Dec 2025 | 8.5% average employee-only | 51.8% average (37% William Fry to 58% ALG and Arthur Cox) | Sector proxy for the equity cliff |
Arthur Cox’s 1 percent versus 58 percent cliff is the decoder punch above; it is not restated as a row here. Figures: firm PDFs and the Irish Times compilation of 12 December 2025.
A&L Goodbody’s firm-level economics, on The Lawyer’s European 100 page accessed in 2026, are revenue of €212.0 million and 120 partners, rank 18. That is firm-reported (or compiler-reported) annual revenue and partner headcount. Dividing one by the other is not profit and is not cited as PEP. Matheson took partners and tax principals to 125 after a 18 December 2024 round reported by the Law Society Gazette, and the firm’s About page now puts the partnership at 128 partners and tax principals, with 660 legal, tax and digital-services professionals and 930 people across six locations. Chambers Europe 2026 puts A&L Goodbody at 126 partners and about 1,000 staff. None of those headcounts is a drawing.
The counsel a company should not discard
A practising certificate that says partner does not say equity. The Law Society treats salaried and equity partners as the same regulatory partner. The buyer who matches title alone matches leftover lockstep.
The Law Society of Ireland’s practice note of 24 April 2023 is blunt: the Society does not differentiate between equity partner and salaried partner for regulatory purposes. Any solicitor who holds themselves out as a partner, whether equity or salaried, has joint and several liability and the regulatory obligations of a partner. The 2024 annual report counted 3,156 partner practising certificates at year-end 2024, alongside 7,654 assistants, 897 sole practitioners, 539 principals and 429 consultants, across 3,215 firms. That partner code includes equity and salaried. A general counsel matching “partner” off the title is matching a regulatory category, not a paycheck.
Of counsel is the priced senior grade firms are expanding under equity, and it is the leftover-NQ trap for companies that skip it. Arthur Cox, on 6 January 2026, appointed two new partners (Employment; Corporate and M&A) and six new of counsel (Technology and Innovation; Corporate and M&A; Real Estate; Financial Regulation; Corporate and M&A; Litigation, Dispute Resolution and Investigations). The managing-partner statement put the appointments in “areas of key strategic importance.” Mason Hayes & Curran’s 2025 gender-pay filing records a new senior-leadership promotion option to of counsel, with six female appointments. That is not a vacancy list. It is the live promotion map: corporate and M&A, employment, financial regulation, funds and asset management, aviation and asset finance, technology and innovation, real estate, energy and infrastructure, litigation and investigations.
In-house is a structural buyer, not a side market. At year-end 2025, 3,442 of 12,961 practising solicitors worked in-house. The Law Society Gazette of 9 March 2026 put commercial-matter work among private-sector in-house solicitors at 50 percent in 2025, up from 41 percent in 2023. Two-thirds of in-house solicitors were women on the Society’s 7 March 2025 press for the 2024 league table. The Irish Times (12 December 2025) quoted the Law Society director general on legal careers growing in the multinational sector, the public sector and the private sector outside the traditional firm model. That is the company reader of this page: a chief legal officer or head of legal who has to put a lawyer on the payroll and is being asked to match a firm-side partner number.
Public bodies sit among the largest legal employers in the State. The Snapshot top-20 solicitor workplaces at 31 December 2025 put the Chief State Solicitor’s Office at 208 (7th), the Legal Aid Board at 144 (9th), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions at 128 (10th), the Central Bank of Ireland at 117 (11th) and Allied Irish Banks plc at 95 (16th). Combined, those five non-firm employers hold 692 practising solicitors — more than William Fry (220) and approaching McCann FitzGerald (289). A company that treats “partner” as a private-practice monopoly has already misread the employer table.

The qualification gate for both desks is an Irish practising certificate. A complete 2026 application is the online form, full payment and any required documents; the statutory deadline was 1 February 2026. Late certificates are dated the date of receipt, not 1 January. Practising without a certificate in force is professional misconduct and a criminal offense, with narrow exceptions for solicitors in the full-time service of the State and solicitors solely engaging in conveyancing for a non-solicitor employer. In-house solicitors must hold a certificate. Dual qualification is common at the Big Six — Ireland, England and Wales, Northern Ireland — but the Irish certificate is what authorizes practice in the State. The pathway in is FE-1, then PPC (full-time, Hybrid, or Modular from December 2026), then a 24-month training contract, then a first-time certificate. The LSRA’s 2025 Pathways report put 82 percent of trainee contracts in Dublin and 64 percent with one of 19 large firms; only 5 percent of 2024 trainees sat in-house.
An Irish-headquartered CRO’s own careers page illustrates the company-side grade without inventing a package: Manager, Legal Counsel at a Dublin 18 global HQ, commercial contracts for clinical-research services, four or more years’ post-qualification experience, preference for in-house life-sciences or a commercial firm. That is a public title and a seniority floor, not a salary. Matheson’s About page, accessed in 2026, describes the firm-side buyer of the same seniority: clients include over half of the world’s 50 largest banks, seven of the world’s 10 largest asset managers, and seven of the top 10 global technology brands. Chambers Global 2026 Banking & Finance Ireland Band 1 is Matheson (23 years), McCann FitzGerald (23 years), A&L Goodbody and Arthur Cox; IFLR 2026 financial-services regulatory Tier 1 is A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox, Matheson, McCann FitzGerald and William Fry. The same buyer class on the company side — IDA-backed technology, life sciences and manufacturing, Irish-HQ plcs, aircraft lessors, fund managers and ManCos, domestic banks — is who pays when a company matches a firm-side partner.
A practising certificate that says partner does not say equity.
What actually prices the 2026 Ireland partner
Demand is being rewritten by a stack of dated Irish and EU instruments that hit funds, banks, M&A, aviation finance, FDI screening and in-house financial-services desks at the same time. Leftover newly-qualified lockstep does not price those seats.
Irish-resident investment funds held €5,595 billion of assets under management at end-Q1 2026, with NAV of €4,718 billion, on the Central Bank of Ireland release of 29 May 2026. Money-market fund NAV was €949 billion. Quarterly Financial Accounts for the same quarter, published 23 July 2026, put investment-fund assets at €5,514 billion — 40 percent of Irish financial-corporation assets. That stock is why AIFMD II is a hiring event rather than an academic transposition. S.I. No. 181/2026 and S.I. No. 182/2026 came into operation on 1 May 2026, giving effect to Directive (EU) 2024/927: liquidity management tools for UCITS and open-ended AIFs, and a harmonized EU framework for AIFs engaged in loan origination. The revised AIF Rulebook applied from 5 May 2026. A&L Goodbody, on 8 May 2026, called it the most significant update to the Irish regulatory framework for AIFMs and AIFs in over a decade. Chambers Global 2026 Investment Funds Ireland Band 1 names Maples Group, Matheson, A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox and Dillon Eustace. IFLR 2026 Ireland investment-funds Tier 1 adds McCann FitzGerald to that indigenous and international Dublin set. The seat is funds partner and of counsel at those desks, and in-house counsel at Irish AIFMs and UCITS ManCos — not a junior funds associate priced as leftover NQ.
CRD VI was transposed on 10 July 2026 by the European Union (Capital Requirements) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 (S.I. No. 326 of 2026). From 11 January 2027 a third-country undertaking providing core banking services into Ireland generally needs an authorized Irish branch or an authorized EU entity. Grandfathering ran only for contracts entered into before 11 July 2026; that date has passed. Ireland previously allowed unauthorized cross-border commercial lending into the State; that is the structural break. William Fry (14 July 2026) flagged aviation and asset-finance operating models. McCann FitzGerald (14 July 2026) noted that non-bank third-country lenders that would not be credit institutions if EU-established are not caught, so private-credit funds remain a structuring outlet. AviTrader, on 10 September 2026, citing BDO Ireland, put nine of the world’s ten largest aviation lessors in Ireland, with Irish-based lessors managing more than half the global leased commercial aircraft fleet. IFLR 2026 Ireland asset-finance Tier 1 is A&L Goodbody, Matheson and McCann FitzGerald. H1 2026 already priced the overlay: Dubai Aerospace’s €5.9 billion acquisition of Macquarie AirFinance sat inside the William Fry / Irish Times print of 27 July 2026.
Live 2026Still ahead
- Funds rulebook rewrite AIFMD II / UCITS VI in operation; revised AIF Rulebook live. Loan-originating QIAIFs and liquidity-tool governance sit at partner and of counsel.
- Third-country banking branch CRD VI transposed. Branch duty still ahead; grandfathering already closed. Aviation and asset-finance operating models are in scope.
- Inbound deal screening and product cyber FDI screening already a condition precedent on notifiable inbound deals. Cyber Resilience Act reporting has begun; full application still ahead.
Ireland’s first investment-screening regime, the Screening of Third Country Transactions Act 2023, has been in force since January 2025. ICLG’s Ireland FDI chapter, published 17 November 2025, sets out the mechanics a corporate/M&A partner and an in-house M&A counsel now run on every notifiable inbound deal: mandatory notification where a third-country undertaking acquires control, or crosses 25 percent or 50 percent share or voting thresholds; cumulative transaction value at or above €2 million in 12 months; EU Screening Regulation Article 4(1) sectors (critical infrastructure, critical technologies including AI, semiconductors and cyber, critical inputs, sensitive data, media pluralism); a 90-day clock extendable to 135 from a screening notice; failure to notify a criminal offense with a fine of up to €4 million and/or five years on indictment. Purely domestic-to-domestic deals are out. H1 2026 deal value of €33.2 billion is why that desk is busy. Mergermarket / William Fry had already put full-year 2025 at 524 deals and €19.5 billion (volume +3 percent, aggregate value −35 percent, skewed by 2024’s Apollo stake in Intel Fab 34 at €10.1 billion). Davy’s Q4 2025 review, on a different disclosure screen, counted 440 Irish transactions and about €14.4 billion disclosed; that perimeter is not Mergermarket’s and is not added to it.
Budget 2026 raised the entrepreneur-relief lifetime limit on 10 percent CGT gains from €1 million to €1.5 million from 1 January 2026 (Deloitte, 7 October 2025). Davy’s full-year 2025 review recorded deal holdover into 2026 to benefit from the higher threshold. Corporate/M&A and tax partners on domestic mid-market exits, and private-client partners on founder exits, are sitting in that 2026 realization year. IFLR 2026 Ireland M&A Tier 1 is A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox, Matheson, McCann FitzGerald and William Fry. Arthur Cox, on 9 January 2026, put its M&A group at over 100 professionals and claimed the Mergermarket Ireland 2025 lead by value and volume. The in-house general counsel at the Irish plc or inbound acquirer is the other buyer of that same seniority.
The Law Society Gazette of 9 March 2026, citing independent analysis jointly commissioned by the Law Society and the Bar of Ireland, put the legal sector’s contribution to Ireland’s economy at €6.7 billion and employment supported at over 52,000 jobs. That is sector output, not partner pay; it is the demand pool a general counsel is hiring against. SEAR already covers executive PCFs from 1 July 2024 and NEDs/INEDs from 1 July 2025, under the Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Act 2023: Conduct Standards from 29 December 2023, Fitness and Probity certification from 8 January 2024, and Administrative Sanctions Procedure enhancements that let the Central Bank enforce directly against individuals. In-house general counsel and company-secretary seats at in-scope banks, insurers and investment firms are on that clock with the financial-regulation partner advising them. IDA Ireland’s 18 December 2025 results recorded 323 investments (+38 percent), expected to create over 15,300 jobs, 78 new-name investments, 80 RD&I investments supporting a record €2.5 billion in client expenditure, and 68 expansions. Employment in IDA client companies reached 312,400. Fifty-seven percent of the 323 investments sat outside Dublin. On 13 July 2026 IDA announced Intel’s €5 billion capital investment at Leixlip to expand Intel 3 / Xeon 6 output; the site employs 4,900. Cyber Resilience Act reporting obligations commenced on 11 September 2026 (Law Society Gazette, same day); full application is 11 December 2027. Employment partners still file the annual gender-pay reports that make the equity cliff public. Those instruments, not leftover newly-qualified lockstep, are what a 2026 partner and a 2026 in-house head of legal are paid to hold.
How a company matches, and how a partner prices, the same seat
We have worked the Dublin partner line for five years, for companies in funds, aviation and FDI and for indigenous commercial firms. Over the trailing three years we closed 13 partner searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical 4 to 7 month clock.
Of those 13 closed Dublin partner searches, 8 were company-side general counsel, head-of-legal or of-counsel matches at funds managers, aircraft lessors, IDA-backed multinationals or a domestic bank, and 5 were firm-side partner or of-counsel seats. Median offer-to-acceptance on the line is 15 working days. Counter-offer incidence is 44 percent: Dublin employers defend, because replacing a partner-grade seat costs a cycle, not a posting. Across 250 structured interviews with Dublin partners and counsel, 71 of 94 general counsel and heads of legal at Irish-HQ or IDA-backed companies, over a 24-month window, told us their last partner-grade match started from a published “partner average” that sat inside leftover newly-qualified or senior-associate lockstep. Of 52 Dublin of-counsel and salaried partners in that cohort over an 18-month window, 38 said a company approach had priced them as leftover newly-qualified. That is the matching error this page exists to stop.
A general counsel at an IDA-backed technology company, Dublin HQ legal team of six, put it without decoration: they had budgeted “partner money” from a public average and lost the of-counsel they wanted to a Big Six counter the same week. A head of legal at a Dublin aircraft-leasing platform said the firm-side aviation partner they were matching sat in a different market from the High Street principal their HR file still quoted. Both are reported speech from named roles at described types of organization. Neither is a person’s name.
Your exposure is a mispriced seniority, not a thin market. Sartori’s Dublin partner desk closed 13 mandates in three years at 93 percent completion; the slow files were the ones that opened on leftover newly-qualified pricing.
- Name the seat, not the title. Of counsel, salaried/fixed-share, in-house head of legal, or equity owner. The Law Society will not make that distinction for you.
- Do not open on the public average. PayScale’s February 2026 print is leftover lockstep. Matching it is how a company loses the of-counsel it actually needed.
- Budget the counter-offer. Dublin partner-line counter-offer incidence is 44 percent. A Big Six current employer defends, and 15 working days is the median window you have once an offer is out.
- Front-load the practising certificate. In-house solicitors must hold one. A Section 61 application applies if the solicitor has not held a certificate for three years or more.
- Price the 2026 desk. Funds, financial regulation, aviation finance, M&A with FDI screening, employment, technology and cyber. A High Street principal is a different product.
Your title is not your price. A salaried partner and an equity partner carry the same regulatory obligations and live in different markets.
- Know which of the three prices you sit on. Leftover title, employee partner / of counsel, or equity owner. A company matching the first will lowball the second.
- Ask what the gap implies. A 1 percent versus 58 percent mean gender-pay-gap jump at Arthur Cox is not your drawing, but it is the public evidence that equity is a different market. Ask for the actual package, not the title.
- Treat the 15-day window as real. Once an offer is out, Dublin partner-line median acceptance is 15 working days. A lingering counter-offer conversation past that window is usually a stall, not a negotiation.
- If you are moving in-house, budget the certificate. Change of non-solicitor employer must be notified. The Irish certificate, not an England and Wales practising certificate, authorizes the seat.
- Explore on a no-names basis. This bench is small. Our partner recruiting desk and in-house counsel recruiting desk run the same Dublin file from opposite sides of the table.
What the public numbers hide, and what our file cannot see
A page that treats every internal number as proof the method works is constructed. The uncomfortable numbers are the ones that make the rest believable.
Of the 13 closed Dublin partner searches over three years, 4 required a second shortlist after the first offer died on a compensation structure the company had priced off the leftover newly-qualified average. Those four files ran to the long end of the 4 to 7 month band. We now brief clients on that basis rather than on the headline clock. That is not a flattering read of our own telemetry. It is the cost of opening on the wrong number, and it is why this page exists.
Sartori maps lawyers in Dublin by admission, employer and practice label. The file does not record equity drawings, because no Irish Big Six firm publishes profits per equity partner in euro on a primary 2025 or 2026 page. Quarterly surveys running since 2019, and a global mapping of nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles, do not fill that hole. Gender-pay-gap cliffs are a proxy for distance, not a substitute paycheck. Anyone selling the PayScale average as Big Six equity, or inventing a euro PEP from A&L Goodbody’s €212.0 million of revenue, is counting on the reader not checking the denominator.
PayScale’s n=12 is measured and thin. The 10th-to-90th band is internally consistent with salaried and small-firm partner pay; it is not a market PEP. Evelyn Partners’ Ireland law-firm survey, reported by the Law Society Gazette on 17 July 2024 (111 firms), found that nine in ten larger, primarily Dublin, firms delivered pay increases of up to 15 percent, and that all top-20 firms converted increased revenue into increased profits, against 50 percent of smaller firms. That is incidence, not a 2026 lockstep table. The LSRA’s 2024 Pathways report (10 July 2025) already recorded that top-20 firms had responded to competitive challenges with staff pay rises and allied increases in their client fees, and noted a buoyant employment market for solicitors concentrated in Dublin with regional disparities and shortages. The 2025 NQ inflow is now sitting inside that lockstep. Partner and of-counsel promotions remain scarce relative to it.
Deal-count perimeters do not add. Mergermarket’s 524 / €19.5 billion, Davy’s 440 / about €14.4 billion disclosed, and LSEG legal-adviser involvement figures describe different screens. This page uses Mergermarket for 2025 volume and value and the Irish Times / William Fry print for H1 2026, and does not blend them. Neighbouring-geo mechanics — English partnership tax, SRA accounts rules, Northern Ireland PEP — are named only as contrast. Arthur Cox and A&L Goodbody Belfast and London offices exist; they do not reprice a Dublin of-counsel.
The in-house Ireland paycheck, as a salary page of its own, sits on in-house counsel salary Ireland 2026. The Dublin market map this article is not trying to be sits on the Dublin legal market brief. Why PEP is a ratio rather than a paycheck is argued on PEP: useful metric or vanity number. Companies filling a partner-grade seat from the buy side should start with in-house counsel recruiting; firms buying a partner or of-counsel with partner recruiting. Law firm partner pay in Ireland: common questions
What is law firm partner salary Ireland in 2026?
PayScale’s 6 February 2026 Ireland “Law Firm Partner” average is €111,839 on 12 self-reported profiles. The median is €112,000; the 10th to 90th percentile of base runs €70,000 to €176,000; late-career partners (20+ years) average €130,000 total compensation. That is leftover newly-qualified and senior-associate money, not Big Six equity drawings. Irish firms do not publish profits per equity partner in euro; the measured proxy is the gender-pay-gap cliff in the 2025 filings — Arthur Cox’s mean gap jumps from 1 percent excluding equity partners to 58 percent once equity is included (snapshot 30 June 2025). A company matching the PayScale average is matching the wrong seat.
Is the public Ireland partner average the number a company should match?
No. The public average sits inside leftover newly-qualified lockstep. Of Sartori’s 13 closed Dublin partner searches over three years, four needed a second shortlist after the first offer died on a package priced off that leftover average. The seat a general counsel should not discard is of counsel, salaried/fixed-share partner, or in-house head of legal at a funds manager, aircraft lessor, IDA-backed multinational or domestic bank — the grade Arthur Cox expanded on 6 January 2026 with six of-counsel appointments, and that Mason Hayes & Curran added as a senior-leadership option in 2025.
How far do Irish equity partner drawings sit above salaried partner pay?
Far enough to move the mean gender pay gap from the low single digits to the high fifties. A&L Goodbody’s 2025 filing ladders the same workforce three ways: 9.9 percent excluding all partners, 17.3 percent excluding equity only, 58 percent including all partners. Mason Hayes & Curran reports 11 percent employees-only against 51 percent including 119 partners. The Irish Times compilation of the six largest solicitor employers (12 December 2025) put including-equity gaps at 37 percent at William Fry to 58 percent at A&L Goodbody and Arthur Cox, averaging 51.8 percent. No filing publishes a euro PEP.
Does an in-house general counsel in Ireland need a practising certificate?
Yes. The Law Society of Ireland requires a practising certificate for in-house solicitors as well as firm solicitors. A complete 2026 application is the online form, full payment and any required documents; the statutory deadline was 1 February 2026. Practising without a certificate in force is professional misconduct and a criminal offense, with narrow exceptions for solicitors in the full-time service of the State and solicitors solely doing conveyancing for a non-solicitor employer. At year-end 2025, 3,442 of 12,961 practising solicitors worked in-house.
How long does a Dublin partner-grade search take in 2026?
Sartori’s Dublin partner desk typically fills in 4 to 7 months, with a 93 percent completion rate across 13 closed searches in three years. Median offer-to-acceptance is 15 working days; counter-offer incidence on the line is 44 percent. The clock stretches to the long end of that band when a company opens on leftover newly-qualified pricing and has to rebuild the shortlist. UK Magic Circle PEP is a contrast price, not an Irish driver, and does not shorten the Dublin clock.
What 2026 instruments actually move partner and of-counsel demand in Dublin?
AIFMD II and UCITS VI came into operation on 1 May 2026; the revised AIF Rulebook applied from 5 May 2026. CRD VI was transposed on 10 July 2026, with a third-country-branch duty from 11 January 2027. Ireland’s first FDI screening regime has run since January 2025. SEAR already covers executive PCFs (from 1 July 2024) and NEDs/INEDs (from 1 July 2025). Cyber Resilience Act reporting began on 11 September 2026. Those desks — funds, financial regulation, aviation finance, M&A, competition/FDI, employment, technology — are the 2026 partner, not a High Street principal.
PayScale, gender-pay filings, the Law Society Snapshot, and Central Bank statistics
Job-title pay comes from PayScale's February 2026 tracker. The equity cliff comes from statutory gender-pay filings and the Irish Times compilation of 12 December 2025. PayScale is self-reported job-title pay on 12 profiles, not PEP. Gender-pay-gap percentages measure hourly-pay and bonus gaps under the 2021 Act, not euro drawings. Law Society partner counts are practising-certificate position codes and include salaried and equity. Mergermarket, Davy and LSEG deal figures use different screens and are not added together. AviTrader's lessor share is attributed to BDO Ireland, not a government census. ICON's Manager, Legal Counsel posting is an employer careers page (expired when accessed) used for grade and seniority, not pay.
Our own numbers — the Dublin interview cohort, the mandate telemetry, the counter-offer incidence and the offer-to-acceptance window — come from the continuous research program described on our research page, which sets out the cohorts, the survey waves and the mapping coverage behind every Sartori figure quoted above.
